Falling Into Place nominated for Best Debut by The German Critics Circle

Falling Into Place - Film 2023 - FILMSTARTS.de

“Falling Into Place”, the debut feature from female writer-director Aylin Tezel is set to screen at the Glasgow Film Festival on March 2nd, 2024! The announcement comes hot off the heels of an incredible festival run, which saw Tezel pick up the FIPRESCI Critics Prize at Tallinn Black Nights 2023 and Young Director Award at the Bayersicher FilmPreis 2024. The film has also been nominated for Best Debut by the German Critics Circle, with the awards show set to be held at the Berlinale Film Festival on February 18th, 2024.

The trailer for “Falling Into Place”

In her English-language debut “Falling Into Place” stars Tezel and British actor Chris Fulton (“Outlander”, “The Witcher”) and follows thirty-something lovers Kira and Ian. Both fleeing their personal demons, the pair meet on a winter weekend on the Isle of Skye. They connect suddenly and deeply, before returning to London where they try to pursue their separate lives - but are forced to confront their pasts before they are ready to reunite. The film co-stars Alexandra Dowling ("Game Of Thrones"), Olwen Fouéré ("The Northman"), Michael Carter ("Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi"), Samuel Anderson ("Another Life") and rising stars Layo-Christina Akinlude ("The End Of The F***ing World") and Rory Fleck Byrne ("The Foreigner"). In a film of rich musicality, with a soundtrack featuring Mercury-winner Jon Hopkins, celebrated Australian singer-songwriter Stu Larsen also makes a small surprise cameo.

Speaking about the film, Tezel had the following to say:

““Falling into Place" is an ode to love: its magic, its memorability, its pain, and its joy. It takes courage to grow up and grow out of different versions of yourself - at any age. For me, this story is not just a love story between two people, it is also a reminder that life is a series of choices. Decisions that we make ourselves, or that are made for us, and that change us. I would like the film to invite viewers to ask themselves personal questions: Do I choose to spend my time doing things I like with people I love? Am I brave enough to look at myself?"

Speaking about her upcoming nomination, Tezel states:

"Filmmaking is quite a long, hard process - and it’s wonderful that the film is finding a home with audiences, keen to talk about the emotions it provokes!"

German-Turkish Aylin Tezel is an award-winning actress who had her breakthrough in festival hits "Almanya" and "Breaking Horizons". Recent notable appearances include in the thriller "7500" alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and in Charlotte Regan’s "Scrapper". Dividing her creative life between London and Berlin, she has previously directed a number of commercials and shorts, including "Dance With Her", which premiered at the Cork International Film Festival, and "Phoenix" starring Killian Scott, Brid Brennan, and Leonie Benesch.

Chris Fulton was born in Castle Douglas, Scotland, in 1988. After completing his acting studies at the renowned Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2012, Fulton soon took on his first roles in major film and series productions, including the BBC series “Doctors”, “Stonemouth”, and “Clique”. He has also appeared in the HBO series “Succession” and, since 2020, in the wildly successful Netflix series “Bridgerton”. Chris Fulton was also in front of the camera for director Marco Kreuzpaintner's Sky Series “The Lazarus Project” and is part of the cast of the seventh season of the US fantasy series “Outlander”. His feature film credits include “Outlaw King” and the comedy “Our Ladies”.

“Falling Into Place” was produced by Weydemann Bros. in co-production with Scotland’s Compact Pictures, and WeFadeToGrey; in co-operation with ARTE, WDR and SR. Supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the German Federal Film Fund, MEDIA - Creative Europe and Screen Scotland.
