CURTAINS UP FOR SUBMISSIONS TO THE 20th INNSBRUCK NATURE FILM FESTIVAL!

The Innsbruck Nature Film Festival (INFF) springs into spring with the Call for Entry to submit films for the 20th edition of the internationally renowned festival. The period for applications is 31 March to 15 July 2021 for films dealing with topics of nature, the environment and sustainability.

A breath of fresh air: For its 20th anniversary, Katja Trippel, experienced science- and environmental journalist, will be taking over as curator. Already active as part of the INFF jury and long-time GEO editor and member of the Editorial Board in charge of the “GEO Reportage” for the French-German TV channel arte, Festival director and founder, Tyrol’s environmental ombudsman Johannes Kostenzer, is delighted over the addition to the team as well as Ms Trippel’s much valued expertise.

Five categories and nine awards: Environmental Documentary, Nature Film, Short Film, Animated Short Film and Young Talents. From these, four Special Awards will additionally be presented: The prestigious Special Award for Best Film on the Topic of Soil, the Cinematography Award personally selected by Oscar-nominated Austrian filmmaker Christian Berger and finally, two new awards, namely the Wild Women Award, celebrating female directors and cinematographers in the environmental and wildlife categories, and the Respect Our Planet Award for a film that inspires respectful treatment of planet Earth through new ideas.

Will we meet face to face?

The Innsbruck Nature Film Festival will again take place in 2021 as part of the International Nature Festival (16-24 October 2021) and is perfectly embedded as a highlight in the week’s schedule, in which numerous activities will draw the attention of all people and invite them to pay attention to a conscious treatment of nature and the environment, motivating them to live well. Not only right on our doorstep but also out in the world. Once again we hope to be able to meet live and face to face as we were able to achieve in October 2020 as one of the few Festivals worldwide.

How could justice be done better here than in a film? With the abstract and the trivial, entertaining and informative, direct and hidden. Thought-provoking, shocking and inspiring. Pleasurable, fascinating and simply beautiful. The cinematic works that will be screened in the anniversary edition will be as diverse and individual as nature itself, living beings and their characters. The first port of call is to apply
