The Marché du Film, looking to strengthen the presence of animation in Cannes, partners with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and its Market to create Animation Day on Sunday, May 19.

Please note that Animaze and Filmfestivals.com have stopped the organisation of the "Animation Day in Cannes" and welcome the new initiative. Good ideas live for ever!

Panel discussion

A panel discussion about the A-Z game plan to releasing adult animated films for the big screen from 11:30 am at the Olympia 1.

On the whole, animation films are usually targeted at a younger age group, yet a number of feature-length animations are specifically aimed at older audiences. From scriptwriting to the film’s release, what are the best choices to make? Is a good distributor one that is specialized? What smart marketing practices help support a film’s successful release in cinema theatres? Producers, international sellers, distributors and operators will address these questions.

— Le Ballon Rouge

The Marché du Film, in collaboration with the newly-formed collective Parenting at Film Festivals, is launching an unprecedented and ground-breaking family-friendly festival journey, Le Ballon Rouge.

Named after the 1956 the Palme d’Or for Short Films winner by Albert Lamorisse, Le Ballon Rouge offers a concrete package of five key services for families:

  • Family-Friendly Accreditation Process: Marché du Film attendees travelling with babies and young children will have a special accreditation in order to access dedicated services.
  • Le Ballon Rouge Kids Pavilion: parents can choose to either spend time with their children or leave them in the care of professional nannies for up to 6 hours - 10:00 to 18:00 daily from May 14 to 21. This special service will be supported by a group of partners and parents will also give a small contribution.
  • Le Ballon Rouge Express-Changing & Feeding Corner: opened from 9:00-18:30 daily from May 14 to 25 in the Palais.
  • Easy Access: to the Marché for parents entering with children at the Palais’ main entrance, Riviera and Pantiero entrances.
  • Le Ballon Rouge Baby VIP Kit: in collaboration with Parenting at Film Festivals and Cinando, a dedicated bag for children.

How was this set up? The Marché du Film has invested in the necessary infrastructure for this project and Parenting at Film Festivals raised the budget of the Kids Pavilion childcare service through an express crowdfunding campaign. Several companies and institutions immediately contributed to this endeavour with financial support: UniFrance, Cinando, EAVE, Wolf Kino, The Film Agency, Pyramide, Madman Entertainment, ADEF, Europa International, Film Constellation, Charades, Pathé.

For more information about Le Ballon Rouge, please visit the Marché du Film website.
