Mirror Mountain Film Festival brings the best in independent, alternative and underground cinema to Canada’s capital. We are a diverse and inclusive festival that welcomes all types of films and all types of people to share in the collective cinema experience. Our mission is to promote unique and original creative voices from the Ottawa-Gatineau region and from around the world. Mirror Mountain showcases innovative, groundbreaking and unconventional films in a wide variety of genres, including drama, documentary, animation, experimental, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, dance and music videos. In addition to film screenings, the festival features engaging, community-oriented activities such as live performances, hybrid media presentations, interactive exhibits, parties, panel discussions, Q&A sessions and more. Our events aim to connect filmmakers both with audiences and with one another, and to support artists through educational and professional development opportunities.
NEW THIS YEAR! Mirror Mountain is now also accepting submissions of interactive media to be considered for temporary exhibition in the festival lounge. Any works that allow the audience to participate directly, including VR, explorable 360° video spaces, playable videogames, film/video installations, net art and more are now eligible to be submitted using our new Interactive Media category on FilmFreeway.

This short video captures the essance of "Morris Bates--A Snapshot of His Life and Legacy", a documentary about the life of Aboriginal Artist Morris Bates.

Morris Bates is a Canadian Aboriginal artist hailing from the Shuswap Indian Reservation in British Columbia, Canada. From these humble beginnings, Bates rose to become one of the most successful Elvis impersonators in the entertainment industry, headlining in Las Vegas for all of 10 years.
Following this phase of his career, Bates returned to Canada and took a job as Aboriginal Liaison with the Vancouver Police Deparment. One of the programs he ran in this position was "Reality Check" where he would take at-risk Aboriginal youth and give them a tour of the mean streets of Vancouver's downtown east side, showing them where they might end up if they weren't careful with their lives.

The Festival of Native American Film celebrates the creative energy of Native American directors,
producers, writers, actors, musicians, cultural activists, and all the
others who support their endeavors. We accept features and shorts, narratives, documentaries, animation, video art, experimental film and new media. The Festival of Native American Film (www.nafestival.com) offers a high profile, prestigious and non-competitive environment perfect for celebrating the best in independent Indigenous films. We accept short and feature length films and videos in the following categories: narrative, documentary, experimental, animation, children’s films and youth produced.
