Freethought Film Fest's blogThe Freethought Film Festival Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, educational organization. Our mission is to promote reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry through the medium of film.
Description
Our biggest project to carry out our mission is the production of the International Freethought Film Festival; an annual event that features independent films annually submitted to us by filmmakers. The film festival is a celebration of having the basic human right and civil liberty to express freethought concepts, and to educate the public on the importance of using reason and science (void of superstitions) to explain our natural world and improve upon the human condition. The International Freethought Film Festival has proven to be a breakthrough for a freethought niche in film, and has inspired freethinkers to embrace a new medium for promoting reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry. We feel strongly that rationalistic and artistic are not mutually exclusive.
2012 INTERNATIONAL FREETHOUGHT FILM FESTIVAL WHEN: AUGUST 2-5, 2012 WHERE: DENVER, COLORADO, USA
General Information
FOR FFFF, FREETHOUGHT IS THE CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF TRUTH-CLAIMS BASED ON REASON AND LOGIC......NOT SUPERSTITION, NOT TRADITION, NOT RELIGIOUS DOGMA, AND NOT BECAUSE SOMEONE "IMPORTANT" SAID SO. International Freethought Film Festival Waives Student Film Submission FeesTo celebrate its one year anniversary as a non-profit organization, the Free-thought Film Festival Foundation, has waived film submission fees to the International Freethought Film Festival for enrolled college students until November 1, 2010. Promoting reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry through the medium of film, The International Freethought Film Festival is a home for independent films that critically examine truth-claims. Reason, logic, critical thinking and science are embraced as the best way to explain the universe; while supersti-tion, dogma, tradition and argument by authority are rejected as justifications for practices, policies and behaviors that are often of detriment to humans and the earth. Student filmmakers can take advantage of the waived film submission fees until November 1, 2010, to submit their features or short films for consideration via Withoutabox. Scholarships will be awarded to student entrants in both categories. The International Freethought Film Festival opened its Calls for Sub-missions for its first season in October of 2009. The Final Deadline is November 20th, 2010, with a Withoutabox Extended Deadline allowing submissions up until January 15th, 2011. Andrea Steele, the director of the event, states, "The International Freethought Film Festival is a celebra-tion of having the basic human right to express freethought concepts, and to educate the public on the importance of using reason and science, instead of superstitions and pseudoscience to explain our natu-ral world. Our own minds are capable of coming up with solutions to improve upon the human condition, and magical explanations to life’s current mysteries are off the table for freethinkers." Opening night for the International Freethought Film Festival is Friday the 13th of May, 2011, and will run until Sunday, May 15th, 2011. The event will take place at the Tampa Theatre, in Downtown Tampa, Florida, USA.
