Competition and eligibility of films Thematic program dedicated to existential range of problems of the LGBT-community «Sunny Bunny»: «Ukrainian panorama 2010-2011»: MOLODIST IFF CALLS FOR ENTRIES! Scandinavian Panorama: the world festivals’ best from Scandinavia in Kiev for the 4th time
The Program is going to present the world festivals’ best from Scandinavia in Kiev for the 4th time. Now it shares a record number of 10 films where you will find cinematic delights of any kind, starting with the history of Pirate Bay to love story of Liv Ullman and Ingmar Bergman.
“8-Ball” is a new work of Aku Louhimies who Molodist’s audience knows for his film “Naked Harbour” that he personally presented last year in Kiev. Now Louhumies is coming back for the festival.
Aku Louhimies is called an antipode of legendary Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki. He is one of the most controversial filmmakers of Finland, mostly owing to his recognizable gloomy depiction of Finnish society. During his career Aku Louhumies shot more than 30 films. Besides direction he also writes screenplays and produces movies. He is a Head of The Association of Finnish Film Directors (SELO).
Gabriela Pichler’s "Eat, sleep, die" arrives in Kiev right from the Venice Film Festival. This film won the Audience Award at Critics’ Week. Gabriela quitted her job at the candy factory to enroll in the School of Film Directing in Gothenburg. Her graduation film has a rich festival history: it has won several international awards.
Scandinavian director Lisa Langseth is also paying her second visit to Kiev. Her directorial debut “Pere” (http://www.molodist.com/en/Program_catalogue2011/19) was screened at Molodist in 2011. That time the leading actress Alicia Vikander won the Yves Montand Prize for the best young actress. A new Langseth’s film "Hotel", where Vikander played the main role again, will be shown his year in Kiev. Film’s producer Patrik Andersson will present it at Molodist IFF.
“It’s Only Make Believe” is a new work by one of the most successful contemporary Norwegian filmmakers Arild Austin Ommundsen. His independent debut feature “Mongoland” became a big hit in Norway. The second work by Ommundsen “Monstertorsdag” was the first Norwegian film selected to participate at Sundance IFF. His third movie “Knerten i knipe” become one of the most successful in the history of Norwegian cinematic franchise.
There are two documentaries in Scandinavian panorama this year. "Liv & Ingmar" by Dheeraj Akolkar is a romantic story of the relationships of famous actress Liv Ullman and great director Ingmar Bergman. Their relationships lasted for 42 years, and 12 films where shot while then. This is Liv’s look at the biggest ups and downs they went through together. The story is told via the images and sounds of their immortal works.
“TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard” is how Simon Klose tells the story of The Pirate Bay website. Creating The Pirate Bay, three digital addicts changed the entire approach to file sharing. Just how did hacker Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Internet activist Peter Sunde and beer aficionado Fredrik Neij cause the White House to threaten the Swedish government with trade sanctions?
“Sex, Drugs & Taxation” is a new film by Christoffer Boe who was awarded with Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival for his feature debut “Reconstruction”. Now it’s a story of friendship between a radical liberalist and a hedonistic capitalist, perhaps the best thing to come out of Scandinavia during the hippie years. Their friendship, forged by being outsiders in a conformist country, took them through years of adulation and success, with slight detours into the welcoming arms of vilification and imprisonment. In Kiev this film will be presented by Nicolas Bro, an actor best known for Boe’s “Offscreen” and Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse”.
“The Deep” by Baltasar Kormákur’s is based on a true story of fishing boat collapse, where of the crew members miraculously survived. Besides film work, Kormákur performs as a director and producer of popular independent theatrical projects.
“The Princess of Egypt” is a featuring debut film by Jan Forsström. The director is known as a co-writer of “Muukalainen”, a film that won the Grand Prix at Göteborg IFF in 2008.
“XL”, which is the third directory work of Marteinn Þórsson, became a winner at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary; it won the award for the Best Actor. Þórsson wrote and co-directed “One Point O” that was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize Sundance in 2004.
Scandinavian panorama will be screened at “Kiev” and “Zhovten” cinema-halls on October, 19 – 27. 08.10.2013 | Molodist's blog Cat. : kiev Scandinavia FESTIVALS
