As its 18th edition approaches, the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival unveils the first details of the NIFFF EXTENDED programme. This multidisciplinary forum designed for networking tackles many topics such as digital creation, audio visual writing or contemporary literature. Four main events – all entirely free – are planned this year: EPIC GAME JAM, IMAGING THE FUTURE, STORYWORLDS, and NEW WORLDS OF FANTASY. Around fifty Swiss and international experts will attend the NIFFF EXTENDED to share their insights about the future of filmmaking and storytelling in general. The complete programme will be revealed on June 21st.

EPIC GAME JAM / 06.07.18- 08.07.18/ Video game conception

Calling all new and experienced creators: the EPIC GAME JAM’s 5th edition will be chock-full of surprises. Come and design a video game according to epic and crazy rules – work under a limited time, in a unique environment, and include a piñata and many other elements to your creation. Two teams will face each other in a no-holds-barred duel. Information and registration open until June 3rd on www.epicgamejam.com.

IMAGING THE FUTURE / 09.07.18– 10.07.18 / Digital creation & new technologies

The 14th edition of IMAGING THE FUTURE will focus on strengthening the symposium’s role as a global landmark for discussions related to new technologies. Around thirty guests will talk about the challenges of contemporary digital creation. The ARTIFACTS&ARTIFICES discussion is one such event. It will be moderated by architect and art historian Matthieu Jaccard, who will dwell upon the digital tools adopted by those willing to explore the new realms of perception and interaction. Artists Gilles Jobin (choreographer, director) and Peter Philip Weiss (sound designer, composer, performer), as well as the fabric | ch (architecture, interaction design) and EXTRAWEG (design, animation) groups will take advantage of this debate to present their respective strategies.

STORYWORLDS / 11.07.18 / Audio visual writing

The STORYWORLDS conference, dedicated to writing for audio visual media, continues to explore the influence of new technologies on storytelling. In 2018, the relationships between social media and storytelling will become the event’s main focus. Among other topics, we will welcome YouTube personalities like le Fossoyeur de films, film critics such as Frédéric Mercier, as well as editors for digital publications, to discuss the importance of storytelling in film reviews.

(UniNE), ScienceValais, and la Maison d’Ailleurs for a conference called FROM 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY TO TODAY: WHEN FICTION IMAGINES THE POST-HUMAN. In addition to celebrating the 50th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, NEW WORLDS OF FANTASY will feature a round table about the prospective potential of fictional worlds with researchers Daniela Cerqui (Associate Professor and Researcher in Anthropology at the University of Lausanne), Simon Spiegel (Post-doctorate in Film Studies at the University of Zurich) and Marc Atallah (Director of la Maison d'Ailleurs and Associate Professor and Researcher at the University of Lausanne).
