Stockholm Visionary Award 2014 goes to director Roy AnderssonRoy Andersson in Venice
Stockholm Visionary Award is awarded to one of Sweden’s most distinctive filmmakers, Roy Andersson. He was recently awarded the Gold Lion for his latest movie, the critically acclaimed A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence. Andersson will be present in Stockholm to recieve the Bronze horse and meet the audience during an exclusive Face2Face. Justification: Ever since his breakthrough with »A Swedish Love Story«, Roy Andersson has refined a distinctive cinematic expression he shares with no other director. Roy Andersson’s films are characterized by an insistent search for a perfect tone – every image, gesture and line of dialogue mediates through humor and seriousness both humanity’s greatness and fallibility. The critically acclaimed A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence is the last movie in the trilogy about being a human. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival where it became the first Swedish movie to win the Gold Lion. The film was also screened at the Toronto Film festival, where it sold out, and the Nordic premiere will be at the Stockholm Film festival in November. Nordic premiere of A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence and Face2Face with Roy Andersson takes place Sunday, November 9, 4 pm at Skandia theatre. Premieres in theatres November 12. Distributor: TriArt Film. Established in 2004, this award recognizes and encourages innovators and visionaries in contemporary cinema. It has previously been presented to Peter Greenaway, Jacques Audiard and Wes Anderson, among others.
