Stockholm Presents 13 Film Programs for 13th Edition

The 13th Stockholm International Film Festival kicks off November 14 with more
than 150 films, seminars and festivities. In 2001 the festival scored an all-time-high
with 80,000 visitors and for their viewing, this year's event includes 68 films
by first time filmmakers and Scandinavian premieres of more than 100 films.
Julie Taymore's Frida, a portrait of Frida Kahlo starring Salma Hayeck
which debuted and opened Venice 2002 in August will also open this year's Stockholm
Festival.

The festival pays homage to Erland Josephson, the 2002 guest of honor, one
of Sweden's greatest actors and star of several films by Ingmar Bergman including
Fanny and Alexander. Erland has selected some of his favorite films for
screening: Beyond Good and Evil, After the Rehearsal, Montenegro or Pigs
and Pearls
and The Sacrifice.

Other Programs - Thirteen Sections

Features of this year's festival include the Short Film Competition; the Open
Zone - trends in contemporary cinema such as John Malkovich's directorial debut
The Dancer Upstairs and this year's closing film 8 Femmes; American
Independents - a selection of contemporary American film produced outside the
traditional studio structure; I-festival - 10 films screened exclusively on
the Internet 24 hours a day during the festival; Northern Lights - films from
the Nordic countries and Baltic States appraised by the FIPRESCI international
critic organization.

Collage presents contemporary trends in innovative and experimental documentaries
and TV-productions such as the controversial 11'09''01, Nick Broomfield's
Biggie & Tupac and Paul Fulton's and Louis Pepe's Lost in La Mancha.
Made in Sweden 2002 presents a selection of Swedish films released this year
including Deadline and Best in Sweden while Made in Stockholm
will exhibit a new short film section and competition features from Stockholm
producers. Asian Images from Iran to Japan, contributions to this section include
Takeshi Kitano's Dolls and A Dream of Youth by Stockholm-Chinese
filmmaker Zhao Yan Guozhang, and Spotlight on Latino cinema with new and exciting
Latin American film productions.

A Gateway to the Scandinavian Market

For the first time the Stockholm International Film Festival, running from
November 14 - 24, will include a sales office for buyers and sellers. The aim
of the Stockholm Sales Office is to provide a network to broaden Nordic distribution
of films screening at the Festival. Over 120 titles have gained distribution
in connection to the Festival since it started in 1990. Easy access to videoteque,
meeting facilities, information and sales updates will be available for distributors
and sales agents. The Stockholm Sales Office and screening facilities will be
located at the Lydmar Hotel, the official centre for the 13th Stockholm International
Film Festival.
