Soccer, film, festival, fans...Let’s get ready for Brazil!

6a01310f90b709970c019b02a136d8970d

On Wednesday, the Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival, presented by Budweiser, revealed the films selected for the 6th annual K+S New York, including several events dedicated to Brazil.

K+S New York 2014 runs from Tuesday, April 8, through Friday, April 11, in downtown Manhattan.

This year’s festival boasts 11 films from eight countries, including the theatrical world premieres of two films from Budweiser’s “Rise As One” series, set to air on Fox Sports 1 in the United States beginning March 25. Directed and produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Scott Boggins and Gabriel Spitzer, the series of six films will air in more than 55 countries around the world as part of Budweiser’s fully integrated, global content series supporting its new Rise As One 2014 FIFA World CupTM campaign.

“This year we are all trying to play the jogo bonito, as the Brazilians say: the beautiful game,” K+S cofounder Rachel Markus said. “And K+S is thrilled to return to New York with one of our most ambitious film lineups and an all new partner in Budweiser. As usual, we hope the films and other cultural events of K+S New York 2014 will help us explore our deepest passions through the power of the world’s game.”

This year’s festival full lineup features:

TUESDAY, APRIL 8, 7:30 PM ET — Theme: “Identity”

➢ Rise as One: One Nation (USA) — the French Men’s national team uses the 1998 World Cup to help heal the racial splits within their nation and sport. This film will also premiere on FOX Sports 1 at 8:00pm ET

➢ The 1905ers (Germany) — Internal politics, right-wing extremists, a fight for a stadium. Just another day in the life of a semi-pro club’s supporter group.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9, 7:30 PM ET — Theme: “Coaches”

➢ The Dream Coach (Italy) — How one Italian youth coach reinvented how to train young players and transformed the lives of thousands in doing so.

➢ We Must Go (USA) — Special preview of the much-anticipated doc about American coach Bob Bradley’s experiences in Egypt.

THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 7:30 PM ET — Theme: “Inspiration”

➢ Scouting for Zebras (Belgium) — The enigmatic and controversial search for talented players in Africa

➢ The Way Back – True Blue 2 (Sweden) — How a young Zlatan Ibrahimovic saved once-proud Swedish club Malmo FC.

FRIDAY, APRIL 11, 7:30 PM ET — Theme: “Brazil”

➢ Rise as One: Match for Peace (USA) — The story of how an exhibition match between World Cup champions Brazil and war torn Haiti, helped lift the spirits of the island nation during one of its darkest hours. This film will also premiere on FOX Sports 1 at 8:00pm ET

➢ Geronimo’s Promise (Brazil) — Just as 2014 World Cup final is about to kick off, Bruno and Leandro’s car breaks down.

Budweiser joins K+S as presenting sponsor
K+S and Budweiser, a part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, also announced on Wednesday that Budweiser, an official sponsor of the FIFA World CupTM, will serve as presenting sponsor of K+S New York 2014.

“We are thrilled to have a brand like Budweiser, whose soccer roots run deep and long, become a partner with K+S,” K+S cofounder Greg Lalas said. “Budweiser believes in the power of great storytelling, as evidenced by their development of the Rise As One series, and we look forward to working with them during the festival.”
