Introducing the film ahead of its U.S. theatrical release in New York on October 14, the Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep said that INDIA'S DAUGHTER deserved to win an Academy Award. "I'm on the campaign now to get her [Udwin] nominated for best documentary," she said. "When I first saw [the film], I couldn't speak afterwards." Streep has been a loyal supporter of INDIA'S DAUGHTER since its U.S. premiere in March. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem attended the special screening last Wednesday, which was co-hosted by Susan Sarandon and included a post screening discussion moderated by Katie Couric.
INDIA'S DAUGHTER, which was banned by Indian authorities in March, is the story of the brutal gang-rape and murder of 23-year-old medical student Jyoti Singh, which sparked protests and serious debate about gender inequality across India.
Join Meryl Streep in showing your support for ending gender based violence across the world. Support INDIA'S DAUGHTER on social media, use the hashtag #OurDaughterToo and follow @IndiasDaughter on Twitter & Facebook. Watch the INDIA'S DAUGHTER trailer and see the film in theaters this October!
