Jack Prazeres wins MARTY for Laurie Pallett Patron of the Year

The Mississauga Arts Council announces its third major community award winner!

After revealing author Robert J Sawyer as winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award and citing Mississauga charity host extraordinaire, Jake Dheer, as Volunteer of the Year, the Mississauga Arts Council is pleased to announce that Jack Prazeres, longtime Chairman of the Carassauga Festival of Cultures, is this year’s winner of the Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award for 2017.

“Carassauga is one of the most successful multicultural festivals in the world. Without Jack’s inspirational leadership, Carassauga wouldn't have achieved what it has and Mississauga would not be the inclusive welcoming creative city that it is,” said Brian Crombie, President of the Mississauga Arts Council.

Mr. Prazeres has a remarkably deep community history, twice winning Queen’s Jubilee Awards for community service and receiving awards for distinguished community leadership in both the construction industry and the Portuguese community, where he has been a key figure behind the fundraising and construction of the Portuguese Cultural Centre of Mississauga.

Prazeres has been awarded the Order of Portugal, selected for the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship and more, yet it is his inspired leadership of the Carassauga Festival of Cultures that moved the Board of Directors of MAC to vote him this coveted award.

Carassauga regularly hosts over 300,000 visitors annually to enjoy the artworks, music and dance that create cultural identities in each of the 25 national pavilions, in what has become a reliably successful event under his 10 years of leadership as Chair of Carassauga.

Congratulations Jack Prazeres for helping to bring arts and culture from around the world to residents of and visitors to Mississauga, each year at Carassauga.
