Multi Oscar®-nominated Italian-American director David O’ Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter), whose latest film is the highly anticipated star-studded crime caper American Hustle, has been named recipient of the Capri, Hollywood –International Film Festival’s coveted “Master of Cinematic Art Award.” The film will have its Italian premiere at the Festival on December 28th.

In addition, Italy’s entry as Best Foreign Language Film for the 86th Academy Awards, The Great Beauty directed by Paolo Sorrentino, will receive the Festival’s “International Visionary Movie Award”.

The announcements were made here today by Michael Radford, the British film director who will be chairing the 18th annual edition of the well-respected gathering, founded and produced by Pascal Vicedomini, that celebrates cinematic art and the “made in Italy” cultural trademark. This year’s festival, organized by the Capri World Institute with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture (Dg Cinema), The European Union and The Campania Region of Italy, will take place December 27th through January 2nd 2014.

“With American Hustle, David O’ Russell again proves that the story is the centerpiece of the art of cinema and when combined with a cast of superb actors who can bring the story to life, the result becomes cinematic magic,” said Michael Radford. “Thus, the Board of the Capri World Institute, which is chaired by director Lina Wertmuller and producer Mark Canton, decided to present its prestigious ‘Master of Cinematic Art’ to this esteemed American filmmaker.”

Radford added: “Paolo Sorrentino has become a visionary force in raising the modern Italian comedy to the level of past masters such as Federico Fellini. We are delighted to recognize his commitment to the genre and to the renaissance of Italian cinema.”

American Hustle, written and directed by Russell is set in the '70s, and revolves around an FBI operation organized to expose the corruption within the U.S. government. It features an outstanding ensemble cast that includes Oscar-winners Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro along with contenders Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. The film will open in America on December 18th.

At last year’ festival, Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook won a staggering four awards including “Best Film of the Year,” as well as the Capri Audience Award, the Best Acting Ensemble of the Year Award and its star Bradley Cooper was named Best Actor.

Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival will open on December 27th with the film" 12 Years a Slave by Steve McQueen (BIM), which is one of this year’s favorites for major global awards.

Additional information regarding films, honorees and attendees will be revealed in the coming weeks, with the final rundown of Capri, Hollywood 2013 announced in mid December. The festival will also present juried awards to the best Italian films of the year and will sponsor galas where the 2013 Capri Awards will be presented to an exciting array of filmmakers and stars. Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival 2013 is promoted by the Capri World Institute. The celebration of International cinema will include many film premieres, a tribute to iconic Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, a retrospective of the most remarkable films of the past season as well as ceremonies for the much sought-after Capri Awards that will go to actors, writers and filmmakers.
