CROUCHING TIGERS PROJECT LAB AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The Crouching Tigers Project Lab Award Winners were announced at the closing of the IFFAM Industry Hub on Sunday. The four winning films were each presented with cash awards of USD 10,000 by Tomas Jegeus from Fox International Production, John Penotti from Ivanhoe Pictures and Jane Wan from Huace Pictures. The winners were: · RIVER TOWN 江城 / Dir & Prod: Lu Chuan / Prod: Jamie Gordon (USA / China) · INSPECTOR LOU / Dir: Djo Munga (United Kingdom / Belgium / Democratic Republic of the Congo) · PINTAKASI / Dir: Erik Matti / Prod: Ronald “Dondon” Monteverde (Philippines) · 270 SAN MA LO, MACAO / Dir & Prod: João Pedro Rodrigues & João Rui Guerra da Mata (Portugal)
Lorna Tee, Head of Festival Management comments: "We're extremely proud and happy with the 3 days of Crouching Tigers Project Lab pitching and meetings as many projects found really good potential investors, sales agents and partners for their film projects. The high quality of the projects and filmmakers resulted in a difficult decision so the jury decided to award to 4 projects instead of 3 as initially planned. Many attendees have informed us of their desire to return for next year's edition as it has been a fruitful event for them."
The Crouching Tigers Project Lab was conceived around three structured concepts: · Exciting and innovative perspectives on the integration of Asian and non-Asian elements in film script and production. · A special focus on genre cinema, including both its classic forms and contemporary trends originated by new technologies and formats. · Effective networking, designed to foster lasting creative collaborations and coproduction partnerships.
From December 9 – 11, through one-on-one meeting sessions, consulting services, workshops and panels, the Crouching Tigers Project Lab provided an ideal opportunity to establish significant connections between seasoned industry professionals from the East and the West.
The Crouching Tigers Project Lab is an IFFAM initiative in partnership with the Sitges Festival (Spain), the Blood Window Lab at Ventana Sur Market (Argentina) and the Frontières Lab (Canada).
Twelve projects, each represented by its director and/or producer comprised the following line up:
