Arclight Films Lands International Rights to the Biographical Crime Thriller Film "Miranda's Victim"ARCLIGHT FILMS LANDS INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS TO THE BIOGRAPHICAL CRIME THRILLER FILM “MIRANDA’S VICTIM”
Starring Abigail Breslin, Luke Wilson, Andy Garcia, Ryan Phillippe, Kyle MacLachlan and Donald Sutherland
Cannes, France (May 15, 2023) – Arclight Films has come on board to handle international distribution rights to the completed biographical crime thriller Miranda’s Victim, the feature film based on the origin of the Miranda Rights. The film stars Academy Award-nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland franchise, August Osage County), Luke Wilson (Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, DC’s “Stargirl”), Andy Garcia (Warner Bros.’ star-studded Ocean’s films, Father of the Bride), Ryan Phillippe (Academy Award-winning Crash, Robert Altman’s Gosford Park), Kyle MacLachlan (Emmy nominated “Twin Peaks,” “Sex and the City”) and Emmy Award-winner Donald Sutherland (Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games series, HBO’s “The Undoing”).
The courtroom thriller is directed by Michelle Danner, whose credits include the action-thriller The Runner starring Edouard Philipponnat, Elisabeth Röhm and Eric Balfour as well as How to Go Out on a Date in Queens starring Jason Alexander and Ron Perlman. With the story by George Kolber, the screenplay was written by J. Craig Stiles and George Kolber & Richard Lasser.
Miranda’s Victim is produced by Kolber and Danner along with Valerie Debler, Brian Drillinger and Alexandra Guarnieri, who teamed up with Danner to produce The Runner. The film is executive produced by Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton, Ying Ye and Pia Patatian. Arclight Films will introduce the film to buyers at the upcoming Marché du Film.
“It's so rare as a filmmaker that you come across a real life story that has never been told. Most people think Miranda is the victim but here is the forgotten woman whose pursuit of justice 60 years ago set off important civil liberties in our country,” noted director Michelle Danner.
“Miranda’s Victim is a riveting and gripping true-crime thriller with a superb ensemble cast led by Abigail Breslin, who delivers a stunning and heartbreaking performance. Rounding out our distinguished cast is Luke Wilson, Andy Garcia, Ryan Phillippe, Kyle MacLachlan and Donald Sutherland in Michelle Danner’s tense and compelling film – it’s an important story to tell and we look forward to introducing the project to our distributors around the world,” said Arclight Films Chairman Gary Hamilton.
In 1963, eighteen-year-old Patricia Weir is kidnapped and brutally raped. Committed to putting her attacker, Ernesto Miranda, in prison, Trish's life is destroyed by America's legal system as she triggers a law that transforms the nation and impacts the international legal system.
Arclight Films’ current slate of films also includes the comedy Arthur’s Whisky starring Academy Award-winner Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge and the legendary Scottish singer/actress Lulu; the celebrated Sundance title Fairyland starring Scoot McNairy and Emilia Jones and produced by Sofia Coppola; John Curran’s psychological thriller Mercy Road starring Luke Bracey; the thriller Poker Face, directed by Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe who also stars alongside Liam Hemsworth, Elsa Pataky and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and The Portable Door starring Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz and Sam Neill.
