Joseph Baird, 28, acted in and produced "The Percipient," a short film competing in the Cannes Court Metrage at the Cannes Film Festival. "The Percipient"is 29 minutes long and centers on a boy named Jack who recently lost his father in Afghanistan. When Jack receives a teddy bear as a gift from his mother, strange things start happening around the house. Jack swears he's not the culprit, but he always gets blamed. When Jack tells his mother about his friend who lives in the house who is making the bad things happen, his mother, and the rest of his family, must determine if he's telling the truth, or simply going crazy because of his father's death. Baird plays Jack's uncle in the short film and the one in the family who thinks Jack is crazy, rather than possessed. When Baird auditioned for the film he figured it would be low budget. "I thought, it will be three guys with a camcorder." It turns out there were several investors involved, a pleasant surprise for Baird. He also highlighted how well the editors of the film did. Baird said there is a script written for a feature film version of "The Percipient," which he is enthusiastic about.
