Lunenburg Doc Fest relaunches $10,000 pitch contest for underrepresented Nova Scotian filmmakers

Lunenburg Doc Fest is now accepting applications from Nova Scotian filmmakers for The Launch: Documentary Development and Pitch Contest.

The initiative, funded by CBC and Bell Fund, offers underrepresented Nova Scotian media artists a chance to win mentorship and a prize package to make a short documentary over the next year. Five selected participants will pitch their documentary project live at the 2023 Lunenburg Doc Fest in competition for a $10,000 prize package including cash and in-kind filmmaking services.

“We are excited that the professional development, mentorship, industry visibility, and generous prize offered through The Launch program is helping to break down barriers and bring more stories from underrepresented voices to the screen,” said Pamela Segger, Executive Director of Lunenburg Doc Fest.

Participants will take part in educational workshops on story development and pitch preparation to kick of The Launch and hone pitch materials ahead of the live contest. Workshops take place Thursday evenings, August 10 & 17, 2023 (subject to change) followed by group and individual mentorship with an international pitch consultant.

Participants will receive key introductions to industry decision-makers, free all-access passes to the tenth Lunenburg Doc Fest and The Dock Market industry conference, plus networking events with peers and industry stakeholders.

The pitch contest will take place at Lunenburg Doc Fest on September 23, 2023 before a live audience and jury of screen industry decision makers. The winner will be announced that evening. Following the contest, the winning filmmaker will be paired with a professional mentor for one-on-one guidance as they create their short documentary project to premiere at Lunenburg Doc Fest in 2024.

Underrepresented emerging to mid-career filmmakers in Nova Scotia who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC), artists with a disability, persons who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and other individuals who identify as underrepresented are encouraged to apply. There are no costs to apply or participate in The Launch program.

For more information, and to apply for free, visit https://lunenburgdocfest.com/industry/the-launch/ The application deadline is July 30, and selected applicants will be notified on August 4, 2022.

Lunenburg Doc Fest gratefully recognizes the support of CBC and Bell Fund.

While online casinos offer a convenient and engaging way to indulge in games of chance and skill, it's important to remember that responsible gaming practices and understanding the potential risks are essential. Platforms like https://automatenspielex.com/casino-echtgeld provide opportunities for entertainment and potential wins, but it's recommended to always set limits, gamble responsibly, and treat it as a form of leisure rather than a guaranteed source of income.
