8th New York Korean Film Festival 2008 Opened with NY Premiere of “Hwang Jin Yi”

The 8th New York Korean Film Festival 2008 (NYKFF) Opening Night VIP Gala Reception preceded the New York Premiere of HWANG JIN YI, directed by Chang Youn-hyun, held at The Times Center, Thursday, August 21, 6:00 PM. The successful 2008 NYKFF opening night gala reception special guests included filmmakers, actors, artists, industry executives, producers, and friends of Korea Society. A special Q&A session with director Chang Youn-hyun immediately followed the NY premiere film. Presented by The Korea Society, 2008 NYKFF held at Cinema Village and BAMcinématek, runs from August 22-31, 2008.

HWANG JIN YI is a compelling and passionate historical film based on the novel by Hong Suk Joong. The film depicts Hwang Jin Yi (Song Hye-kyo) life story, a Korean aristocrat of the Joseon Dynasty from the 1500's who becomes a legendary kiseang (female entertainer) when her past is revealed. Jin Yi's true love Nom-Yi (Yoo Ji-tae), a childhood friend remains her eternal protector.
