Palatin Media Acquires Interest in Kinostar FilmverleihPalatin Media Film- & Fernseh GmbH of Munich has taken a 25.1% stake in Kinostar Filmverleih GmbH. Palatin acquired the shares from Kinostar Theater GmbH.
In addition to acting as CEO of Palatin, Bernd Schlötterer will join the Stuttgart-based film distributor’s management team as a further managing director.
As one of the top ten independent film companies in Germany, Kinostar Filmverleih GmbH specializes in the distribution of Hollywood films, German and Turkish movies, and Bolshoi Ballet productions. The company is also a leader in the worldwide video-on-demand (VOD) market, where Kinostar aggregates content for all major platforms, including iTunes and Google, and exploits both its own licenses and those of its licensors.
“We are very excited about this partnership with Palatin, which will greatly benefit both companies,” says Kinostar Managing Director Michael Roesch.
“This stake in Kinostar will allow us to directly monetize our products on the film market and worldwide VOD markets. Kinostar in turn will benefit from our strength in exploiting content for television and on other monetization platforms,” says Palatin Managing Director Bernd Schlötterer.
These major synergies were not the only reason the two companies joined forces, however: “We see huge opportunities for growth, particularly in the market for European films,” states Matthias Roesch, “And we will unlock this potential together.”
Bernd Schlötterer adds, “We are extremely pleased to be debuting our partnership at MIPCOM and AFM.”
The alliance between Palatin and Kinostar is already producing initial results: In addition to the launch of “Surprise,” the new film by Oscar winner Mike van Diem, Kinostar will bring the French film “Le Miracle de Lourdes” to theaters as alternative content on December 11.
