Genova Film Festival12th GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL With the competition sections of short films and documentaries, and the international screenings, the explorations of Italian cinema, conferences and filmmaking lessons, the GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL promotes and supports production by young or new filmmakers and acts as a true observatory of the trends of Italian and international cinema. Two windows are open to international cinema: this year, the Oltre il Confine (Beyond Borders) section will be dedicated to films made in the Basque Country, which will contribute to composing an extraordinarily complex portrait of the culture and creativity of this region. On the other hand, ABCinema, space dedicated to masters of the seventh art, will this year host the brilliant young German director, Dennis Gansel. Gansel, who in the last film season shook up and amazed audiences all over Europe with his film, Die Welle (The Wave), will meet the general public at the Festival to talk about his idea of film. The meeting will be accompanied by a retrospective of his works: from his early shorts filmed while he was attending the prestigious film and television school in Munich to the highly appreciated NaPolA and The Wave; diptych ideal where the director explores the issue of Nazi crimes and the genesis of totalitarian regimes. The GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL benefits from the sponsorship of Regione Liguria, Province of Genoa, Municipality of Genoa, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation, the Goethe Institut among others, and also works closely with the Government of the Basque Country, Filmoteca Vasca, Kodak, Augustuscolor, Le Mani publishing company, Documentary in Europe and Casa della Musica.
