Genova Film Festival

12th GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL29 June / 5 July 2009 The GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL is the most important cultural event in Liguria connected to the world of films and audiovisuals and is the point of reference for all movie lovers; this twelfth edition is full of events, previews, meetings with filmmakers and more than 130 films programmed.
With the competition sections of short films and documentaries, and the international screenings, the explorations of Italian cinema, conferences and filmmaking lessons, the GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL promotes and supports production by young or new filmmakers and acts as a true observatory of the trends of Italian and international cinema.

Two windows are open to international cinema: this year, the Oltre il Confine (Beyond Borders) section will be dedicated to films made in the Basque Country, which will contribute to composing an extraordinarily complex portrait of the culture and creativity of this region. On the other hand, ABCinema, space dedicated to masters of the seventh art, will this year host the brilliant young German director, Dennis Gansel. Gansel, who in the last film season shook up and amazed audiences all over Europe with his film, Die Welle (The Wave), will meet the general public at the Festival to talk about his idea of film. The meeting will be accompanied by a retrospective of his works: from his early shorts filmed while he was attending the prestigious film and television school in Munich to the highly appreciated NaPolA and The Wave; diptych ideal where the director explores the issue of Nazi crimes and the genesis of totalitarian regimes.

There is also plenty of room for the Italian film industry; some of the Festival guests include director Pappi Corsicato who will meet the public in conversation with movie critic Oreste De Fornari and the director Alina Marazzi is the celebrity in the Percorsi di Stile section. There will be the usual tribute to Vittorio Gassman presented by Claudio G. Fava that involves lots of film buffs each year.

The GENOVA FILM FESTIVAL benefits from the sponsorship of Regione Liguria, Province of Genoa, Municipality of Genoa, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation, the Goethe Institut among others, and also works closely with the Government of the Basque Country, Filmoteca Vasca, Kodak, Augustuscolor, Le Mani publishing company, Documentary in Europe and Casa della Musica.
Each year, leading Italian production and distribution companies work with the Genova Film Festival along with the most famous filmmaking bodies and Italian and international film libraries.
