The winner of the 35th CICT UNESCO “Enrico Fulchignoni” Award at the 80th Venice International Film Festival is “Me Captain,”
The jury, composed by Pierpaolo Saporito, President of OCCAM and President a.i. of CICT ICFT UNESCO, Jasmina Bojic, Founder and Director of the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF), Giacomo Mazzone, Secretary-General of Eurovisioni, Tiziana Maria Di Blasio, Professor at Pontificia Università Gregoriana, and Alessandro Mandelli, Founder of Serially, is honored to announce that the winner of the 35th CICT UNESCO “Enrico Fulchignoni” Award at the 80th Venice International Film Festival is “Me Captain,” ("Io Capitano") by Matteo Garrone.
This powerful film about immigration admirably fosters undeniable principles, such as the protection of human rights, the fight against social and cultural marginalization, solidarity and care for human beings and hope toward other possible future opportunities for the new generations.
We are particularly pleased to learn that a day after our decision Matteo Garrone also won at the historic 80th Venice Film Festival Best Director Award, while the main actor from the film, the newcomer Seydou Sarr won the Best Young Actor Award for his performance of a Senegalese teenager who leaves home on a quest to reach Europe.
Jasmina Bojic, UNAFF Founder and Festival Director was not only a member of the Jury but also a presenter at the CICT-ICFT UNESCO 25th EUROMEDITERRANEAN CONFERENCE ON CINEMA “Platforms and AI: The rise of global cinema?”
