VideoFestThe Annual VideoFest will be at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas, TX. The oldest and largest video and film festival in the nation, VideoFest shows a diverse range of works by regional, national and international video and film artists that are hard to find at the local video store, the movie theater or on Netflix. Because VideoFest is different than a traditional film festival or just going to a movie, a designer will be creating a VideoFest set at the Angelika. Expect something different! For the second year in a row, the VideoFest will be presented thru I-Tunes.
A curated look at YouTube, a feature about the man behind the Texas Rangers’ dot race, Romanians becoming Israelis, a retrospective and appearance from The Art Guys, a documentary about drug companies racing to create a female orgasm pill, the tale of how the American financial system went awry, a history of Jews in Dallas, computer animation compilations from Siggraph and local high schools and colleges, museum commissioned film criticism reported via film, the heckled actor Jamie Kennedy heckles back, the gospel of not-spending, and much more will be shown on the screens and through video installations throughout the Angelika. Patrons may purchase day passes ($25 or $35 depending on day) or All-Festival passes ($75) for over 150 programs making this Festival the best deal in town. Buy tickets online in advance or at the door day of show. Visit www.videofest.org for more information or call 214-428-8700. ABOUT VIDEO FESTVideo Fest is now the oldest and largest video festival in the United States, and continues to garner critical and popular acclaim. Since 1986, The Video Fest has specialized in independent, alternative, and non-commercial media, presenting hard-to-find works rarely seen on television, in movie theaters, or elsewhere, despite their artistic excellence and cultural and social relevance. Even in a Web 2.0 environment where everything is seemingly available on the Internet, the Video Fest provides curatorial guidance, a critical voice in the wilderness navigating the vast and diverse landscape of media, helping to interpret its cultural and artistic significance. The event still provides a communal environment for real-time, face-to-face dialogue between makers and audiences. ABOUT VIDEO ASSOCIATION OF DALLASThe mission of the Video Association is to promote an understanding of video as a creative medium and cultural force in our society, and to support and advance the work of Texas artists working in video and the electronic arts. The Video Association of Dallas (VAD) is a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated on April 25, 1989. It began in 1986 a weekend event, “Video As A Creative Medium”, presented at the Dallas Museum of Art by independent curators Barton Weiss and John Held. That first event, which included two nights of video by selected local and national video artists, was a great popular success, which led to the founding of the Dallas Video Festival (DVF) in 1987. Video Association of Dallas presents the 24 Hour Video Race, The Program at Conduit Gallery, the Texas Tour, the Youth Media Jam, Three Star Cinema, Rock n Reel, Guts and Glory, college showcases and other programs throughout the year. VideoFest calling for the 25th edition (25 is Sept. 27-30, 2012 at Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, Texas)The Video Association of Dallas is accepting entries for its VideoFest 25 that will be Sept. 27-30, 2012 at the Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, Texas. To enter work into VideoFest, sign up for a free account with indee.tv, and then go to http://indee.tv/index?festival=videofest. Entries will be accepted until June 1, 2012. Since 1987 the Dallas Video Festival, now VideoFest, has specialized in fiercely independent, imaginative, unusual, provocative and sometimes description-defying electronic media. VideoFest is still a bastion of true independent media, offering viewpoints and voices and visual styles that don't always have expression in more mainstream festivals. We're a filmmaker-friendly festival whose audience is hip, sophisticated, adventurous, intelligent, and offbeat, and who care more about seriously watching your film than attending parties. We offer both style AND substance. Instead of one big prize, we give over $8,000 in honorariums to every artist whose work we show. Individually, it's not a lot of money, but it basically pays back your entry fee and, more importantly, gives us some tangible way for us to honor your work and thank you for being the heart and soul of VideoFest. Most works are selected by Artistic Director Bart Weiss, with the exception of short works by Texas artists, which are selected by a jury. Works selected into The Texas Show are given special attention as the closing program of the Festival, and the works are authored to DVD. Short Texas works not selected into The Texas Show can still be eligible for the Festival if selected by Mr. Weiss. 01.05.2012 | VideoFest's blog Cat. : Artist Artistic Bart Weiss call for entries Call For entry CDATA Contact Details Dallas Dallas Dallas Museum of Art Director Entertainment Entertainment film film festivals Geography of Texas http://indee.tv/index?festival=videofest Person Career Texas Texas Texas the Dallas Video Festival video video festivals vidéos XML Call for entry
