"A FESTIVAL WIFE" TO BE SERIALIZED ON FEST21.COM
Filmfestivals.com, the online source for global film festival news and
resources, will serialize "A Festival Wife," a first novel by former
Variety reporter Rex Weiner, and publish on fest21.com culminating in Cannes.

"Who are they?" my director demanded, "and will you please, please stop pulling on me!"

Steering
my charge up the sidewalk beyond the black roil of limos and taxis, the
fans pressed like meat against the barricades, the security guards
glaring dumbly at guest passes, the insatiable paparazzi, I was too
busy doing my job to more than mutter some vague acknowledgement of his
question and his complaint.

What
a sorry pain in the ass he'd been all morning, this all-time great but
nearly forgotten and clinically depressed film director. Only moments
earlier I'd seriously doubted he would, or even could, rouse himself
from his self-pitying torpor for the big event.

Now, however, as the brass band trumpeted the theme from Dr. Zhivago
and klieg lights laced the sky over the red carpet leading up the
stairs of the Castello di Festival, he was very much roused, all right.
But not by the event itself.

"That couple up there. She is absolutely positively lovely."

Located in the Palais des Festivals, the Short Film Corner is a huge
area open to all the professionals registered with the Festival de
Cannes and the Marché du Film. The Short Film Corner proposes films
from all over the world, most previously unseen, as well as the films
included in the Official Competition, the Cinéfondation, the Director's

PALM SPRINGS SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL June 23 – 29, 2009
This celebrated event is the largest festival of its kind in America,
showcasing over 320 short films each year from more than 40 countries,
with a library of more than 2,700 films available to film buyers,
industry and press in the Film Market running concurrently with the
Festival. The Festival includes twenty awards in six competitive
categories, with award cash or film production prizes in each category
( over $100,000 worth of prizes, in all). Call for Entries - Final
