Los Angeles, California January 21, 2014– Little Studio Films announces the acquisition of the rights to the romantic comedy screenplay “AS GREEK AS IT GETS” from Australian screenwriters Helene and Peter Paroulakis and will be presenting the project at the 2014 Berlinale to territorial distributors and potential co- production partners. Hoping to follow the box office and cross cultural success of the Nia Vardalos film “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, the producers, Alexandra Yacovlef and Alexia Melocchi , have decided to celebrate their cultural roots by taking on the material of father and daughter writing team,  Helene and Peter Paroulakis, of Australian and Greek nationalities,  who  will be acting as executive producers. “As Greek as it Gets” is a comedy of mistaken identity and the pursuit of love and one’s dreams primarily set in the beautiful island of Mykonos, Greece.

Filmmaker Jim Fall (The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Wedding Wars) is in negotiations to direct the feature with an anticipated shoot in the late summer 2014 in Europe. Casting will include both American and European actors.

Peter Paroulakis, a published author of “The Greek War of Independence” and his daughter Helene first met the mother and daughter producing team at the LOS ANGELES GREEK FILM FESTIVAL where Alexia Melocchi is an Advisory Board Member.

The two families immediately connected. Little Studio Films was originally brought on board as consulting and packaging producers for the Australian creative team, and the collaboration started with a goal of showing through a commercial movie project the beauty of Greece and its people in the hopes of promoting the tourism in an economically distressed country. They plan to rally the support of Greek American businesses and have already secured production partners in Greece.

As Greek as it Gets tells the story of a handsome and down on his luck Greek American man going to the island of Greece to pursue his dream of being a ship owner by impersonating a famous one, while also trying to woo the girl of his dreams.

Alexandra Yacovlef, who comes from a prominent Greek family said: “ We are very excited to be involved to finally show the world how hospitable and generous and funny the Greek people of Greece are, despite the Country’s problems. Historically speaking, it is not only the country that founded democracy but it is also the country that invented comedy and tragedy in the theatre.”

 LITTLE STUDIO FILMS is in post- production on the documentary SOUL JOURNEY, directed by Marco Della Fonte and has two features selling at Berlin, Stealing Roses with John Heard via Worldwide Film Entertainment and the Duran Duran “Unstaged’ concert film directed by David Lynch which they are selling together with Arclight Films.
