Film Mode Entertainment Announces Berlin World Market Premiere of LITTLE PINK HOUSEStarring An Impressive Female-Led Cast Including Oscar-Nominee Catherine Keener, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Callum Keith Rennie
Inspiring true story, based on the best selling book of the same name by Jeff Benedict, about a small-town nurse who rallies her neighbors to stand up to the huge corporation that wants to destroy their homes, screens in Berlin
“Keener nails the combination of anger, grace and attitude that made Susette Kelo a nationally known crusader against eminent domain abuse.” Deadline Hollywood
“Little Pink House brings urgency to a fascinating, underexplored theme.” The Hollywood Reporter
Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment announces the Berlin World Market Premiere of inspirational drama LITTLE PINK HOUSE, based on the best selling book of the same name. The film recently premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to sold out audiences and will next be the opening film to the Athena Film Festival in New York City. The cast includes two-time Oscar-nominee Catherine Keener (CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, INTO THE WILD, THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN); Jeanne Tripplehorn (THE FIRM, BIG LOVE, BASIC INSTINCT); and Callum Keith Rennie (FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY, THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, MEMENTO).
The film was invited to play the Santa Barbara International Film Festival at the beginning of February and was so well received, it earned standing ovations, and encore screenings.
The cast alone brings aggregate box office earnings into the hundreds of millions of dollars (US). The major worldwide following of the book and the tremendous media attention Kelo’s saga attracted bolsters this powerful story. THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER observes that it follows in the tradition of ERIN BROCKOVICH, and features powerful performances by some of the most renowned women in Hollywood.
“This very moving, inspirational film is a tribute to the human spirit, and shows how the determination of a single individual can change the course of events for the better.” Said Clay Epstein, President of Film Mode Entertainment. “LITTLE PINK HOUSE is a commercially viable film with a vital and timely message that will tug at the heartstrings of distributors and movie-goers across the globe.”
Writer/Director Courtney Moorehead Balaker (THE COLLECTOR, CUTE COUPLE, HE WAS A QUIET MAN) creates a moving drama based on the remarkable true story of Susette Kelo, a nurse who takes on a huge corporation that tries to use eminent domain to seize homes in her working-class Connecticut neighborhood to make room for a new corporate facility. Susette organizes her neighbors and leads a battle that ends up before the U.S. Supreme Court. Kelo and her neighbors ultimately lost in a 5-4 decision, but united a nation in the process (Donald Trump was a rare supporter of the widely-despised decision). Susette’s battle attracted enormous media attention, and inspired many reforms in eminent domain laws.
“I’m very excited to be working with Clay Epstein and Film Mode Entertainment to bring LITTLE PINK HOUSE to viewers everywhere,” said writer-director Courtney Moorehead Balaker. “Bringing Susette’s story to the screen has been a passion of mine for years. Susette just wanted to live in peace, but when faced with a choice between fighting or having her neighborhood bulldozed, she chose to fight the powerful bullies who were threatening her blue-collar community. Susette is a model of courage and defiance, and Catherine Keener’s outstanding performance perfectly embodies Susette’s spirit and drive. ”
Producers include Courtney Moorehead Balaker, Ted Balaker and Joel Soisson.
Film Mode Entertainment is representing international rights on the film and will be showing footage to distributors in Berlin. 12.02.2017 | Berlin's blog Cat. : FILM
