DAVID ANSEN, Artistic director of the LA film festival by Marla Lewin I just got off the phone with David Ansen, who I have known from the festival circuit, as well as I must admit we are neighbors.  Through the years I loved reading his Newsweek reviews, as he is so highly regarded as one of Americas top film critics.  It was an honor to speak with him today in his new position. Marla: So David, I remember last year you were on the Jury of the LA film festival, and w...

Film Independent's DIVERSITY EXPO

This was a great outdoor party at the Hammer Museum in Westwood.  (Festival HQ)  Put on by Film Independent, the DIVERSITY EXPO was an opportunity for filmmakers from all backgrounds and voices to reach out to various organizations for support and inspiration.

Interview w/Jennifer Venditti, director of BILLY THE KID

Jennifer Venditti is a new film director to keep your eye on. Her first film out of the gate is the charming documentary, BILLY THE KID, which is currently screening at the LA Film Festival and also screened at HotDocs and won the audience award at South by Southwest.

Transformers Sighting!

I love Transformers!  I really, really enjoyed this movie.  It wasn't just a movie to me, it was an event.  It reminded me of how I felt when I walked out of the theater after seeing Star Wars...like the bar had been raised on Sci-fi, special effects movies.  The same is true with Transformers.  It's amazing.   Transformers premieres tonight (Wednesday, 6/27/07) at the LA Film Festival.
