The Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has selected twenty-five film projects that receive grants for script development, digital production, postproduction, distribution or workshops. Synopsis
Helmed by three female directors, this omnibus features three films set in China, Thailand and Singapore respectively. Each story occurs at a specific mealtime, and seeks to interpret the frailties and complexities of love through different Asian perspectives.
All three stories are tethered with the question, “Will you marry me?”
Mirroring the repasts themselves, Breakfast and Dinner are heavier in tone, while Lunch is light with a sprinkle of humor.

For the past three years, a special leader has been made for the Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) to be screened at the IFFR ahead of films made possible with support from the HBF. To make these leaders, the HBF approaches filmmakers who received support from the Fund early on in their careers. These filmmakers are then given complete artistic freedom to make a leader. The International Film Festival Rotterdam announced today it is bringing the successful interactive installation "Home Movie Factory" by French filmmaker Michel Gondry to the Netherlands. Following the example of Jack Black and Mos Def in Gondry's film BE KIND, REWIND (2008), the installation gives participants the opportunity and resources to make a short film in under three hours.
