The director said: "I am very happy to be with my actors on this stage, it makes me less shy. I would like to thank the entire Jury and Thierry Fremaux, who gave me the opportunity to present this film here. Thanks to everyone who helped me make this film. Thank you to my wife, who has been supporting me for many years. This film is in part an illustration of the promise that we made to each other. A big thank you to my two actors. They are the essence of this film."

The Hollywood Reporter review:
Magnificent in its simplicity and its relentless honesty about old age, illness and dying, Michael Haneke’s Amour is a deliberately torturous watch, one that is going to weed the master’s fan club of the lightweights who went along for the ride with the morbid mental puzzle-solving of Hidden and Palme d’Or winner The White Ribbon.
