PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 9, 2008)– Do you have a story idea that you feel would make a great film? Hopeful screenwriters, ScriptBiz™ is coming this August to Providence, RI. ScriptBiz™ is a two-day workshop created and presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Instructors are professional filmmakers, directors, writers, and other experienced members of the film community who will guide students down the right path to putting their creative ideas onto paper and getting their final product into the right hands. This year’s topics will include: informative instruction on promoting work to appropriate filmmakers; making an appealing pitch, as well as learning to network with the right people; training writers on the specific aspects of storytelling, including plot, character, and dialogue; instruction on using appropriate computer software and formatting tools to aid in the writing process. Finally, students will learn how to market their story and receive compensation for their final screenplays.
ScriptBiz™ will take place August 4-5, a great welcoming introduction to the Rhode Island International Film Festival, which kicks off the evening of August 5th. ScriptBiz™ 2008 will be held at the Renaissance Providence Hotel, 5 Avenue of the Arts, Providence, RI.
Monday’s workshop will begin at 9 a.m. Registration takes place between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and the day ends at 6 p.m. Tuesday’s program begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. The fee for each day is $105, or $150 for both workshops. Refreshments will be served during morning and afternoon breaks. These have been helpful in the past, allowing panelists and attendees an opportunity to discuss their writing firsthand, while also building lasting connections.
This year’s guests will include: Tim McIntyre from Nickelodeon’s Fairy Odd Parents; Chris Sparling from Scarred Heeled Productions; Pilar Alessandra, whose clients have sold scripts to Warner Brothers, Sony, and Fox; and Edward Delany, who is a local screenwriting professor from Roger Williams University.
To apply to ScriptBiz™ 2008, fill out and submit the downloadable application on the film festival’s website, www.film-festival.org. In celebration of this year’s 12th Annual RIIFF, we are offering a discount from the workshop’s day pass to potential ScriptBiz™ participants who are students, stay-at-home parents, and those who have participated in past ScriptBiz™ workshops.
