Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

On November 20-21, John Mathieson, BSC, BAFTA-winning and twice Academy Award nominated cinematographer of Gladiator (2000) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004), will give a masterclass at Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School.

At the workshop of November 20, John will demonstrate and talk through his process and approach to shooting a small scene in an apartment set, showing different styles of lighting, camera framing and movement. The workshop is almost sold out, please check with the Head of Creative Gate, Leana Jalukse, for availability.

On November 21, John will hold a talk at Supernova Cinema, BFM, accessible with a one-day price of 15 EUR.

TV Beats continues to develop a program dedicated to TV series, which presented three new international series to festival audiences last year. Narva Creative Incubator OBJEKT introduces this year at Black Nights Film Festival and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event a new audiovisual media development programme, TV Beats, with the aim to grow the TV production ecosystem in the Baltic region. 

In the framework of the programme, TV Beats Forum will take place before the official start of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event on November 23rd, 2018, where world-class TV producers from Great Britain, Finland and Russia will share their valuable experience. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn how the best formats are found, produced, and channelled and to discuss the main principles of building a successful TV production industry ecosystem.

Music Meets Film runs through November 23–25 this year, offering a programme full of talks, masterclasses, a tour to the recently opened Arvo Pärt centre and a film screening. Featuring acclaimed film industry professionals in talks and masterclass sessions dedicated to film scoring, Music Meets Film will tackle creative collaboration between directors, composers and editors, and the fine art of scoring for films and trailers.
