SUNTAN, by director Argyris Papadimitropoulos, to receive its world premiere in RotterdamPapadimitropoulos returns after opening 2011 festival with Wasted Youth
SUNTAN, the third feature film by noted director Argyris Papadimitropoulos, is to receive its world premiere at this year’s Rotterdam International Film Festival, competing for the prestigious VPRO Big Screen Award four years after his previous film Wasted Youth opened the 2011 edition of the festival.
Called a ‘Coming of middle age film’ by Papadimitropoulos, SUNTAN stars Greek actor Makis Papadimitriou (L, Chevalier) as Kostis, the new doctor of a tiny holiday island who finds it hard to connect with anyone until he meets Anna, a young, beautiful traveller with whom Kostis’s unlikely flirtation becomes infatuation and ultimately, his obsession.
Alongside Papadimitriou is Elli Tringou as Anna, and the supporting cast members includes Dimi Hart, Hara Kotsali, Marcus Collen and Dutch actress and model Milou van Groessen. The director and cast will be in Rotterdam to present the film.
For middle-aged Kostis, life has passed him by.
As the newly appointed doctor of a tiny island, Kostis spends a dreary winter alone, unwilling to connect with the townspeople. By the time summer arrives, the island has turned into a thriving, wild vacation spot with nude beaches and crazy parties.
When Kostis meets the beautiful and flirty Anna, he falls hard for her and goes out of his way to conquer and impress her and her group of sexually liberated friends. Before long, Kostis is spending nearly all of his time getting drunk, partying and even making out with Anna.
What starts as a rediscovery of his lost-long youth, however, slowly turns into an obsession as Kostis becomes willing to do whatever it takes to keep Anna.
SUNTAN is produced by Papadimitropoulos’s Oxymoron Films and Phaedra Vokali of Greek independent production company Marni Films.
The film is being sold worldwide by Visit Films.
