Oscar Nomination for Wim Wenders the EFA President

The German director Wim Wenders has been nominated for an Oscar® in the category of Best Documentary Feature. Other nominations went to the German co-productions CITIZENFOUR by Laura Poitras (DE/US, Praxis Films) and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL by Wes Anderson (GB/DE, Neunzehnte Babelsberg Film). The composer Hans Zimmer has been nominated in the category of Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) for INTERSTELLAR. This was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Wim Wenders received the nomination for the French production THE SALT OF THE EARTH about the Brazilian photographer and explorer Sebastião Salgado, which he realised together with Juliano Ribeiro Salgado. The film had its world premiere in Un Certain Regard at last year's Cannes Film Festival. This is the third Oscar® nomination for Wim Wenders.

The German producers Dirk Wilutzky and Mathilde Bonnefoy were nominated in the category of Best Documentary Feature for CITIZENFOUR (DE/US, Praxis Films). CITIZENFOUR's director Laura Poitras lives in Germany.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL by Wes Anderson (GB/DE, Neunzehnte Babelsberg Film) received a total of nine nominations – the same number as BIRDMAN - and the largest number of nominations for a single film. The German co-production, which was mainly shot in Görlitz and other parts of Saxony, was nominated for Best Picture and Achievement in Directing, among others. THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL was the opening film at the 2014 Berlinale.

The 87th Oscar® awards ceremony will be held in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 22 February 2015.

An overview of all of the Oscar® nominations can be found here.
