To celebrate its 55 years, the Festival de Cannes is paying tribute to great
film composers - Ennio Morricone, Jean-Claude Petit, Antoine Duhamel, Howard
Shore, Randy Newman, Angelo Badalamenti... just to name a few. Forty huts along
the Croisette have been equipped with sound devices, which will play the music
of these composers for a Croisette Musical Promenade. The Red Carpet has been
rolled out as well in front of the Majestic Hotel and champagne will fill the
flute glasses during the lunch hour.

This evening, the Regional Orchestra of Provence-Alpes Cote d'Azur will perform
under the conductor Philippe Bender at Palm Beach such favorite film melodies
as "An American in Paris", "A Place in the Sun", "8
1/2", "The 400 Blows"... And for movie-goers, the "Sand
Theatre" set up at Macé Beach will be presenting a 10pm screening
- free to the public - of Yves Robert's Un elephant, ca trompe enormement,
in homage to director's recent death.

And no birthday celebration is complete without its candles on the cake. Each
night a 55-light salute illuminates the Cannes bay in playful sweeps across
the sky and a full array of colors.
