Annual African American Film Marketplace

The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) presents its 17th Annual African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase December 10-12, 2010. This three day event celebrates cutting edge short films written, directed, and/or produced by emerging African American filmmakers, and will include an Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding Veteran African-American Animators, who are seldom recognized for their contributions to the culture and historical make-up of the filmmaking community.

December 10th at the National Center For Democracy, 369 East First Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 will be the opening night ceremony of the BHERC tradition aptly named: “A Great Day in Black Hollywood Part 4: Honoring Veteran Black Animators.” Honorees include: Lyndon Barrois, Jamaal Bradley, Frank C. Braxton, Jr. (1929–1969), Lennie Graves, Dan Haskett, Keith Hunter (1966–2007), Ron Husband, Floyd Norman, Ron Myrick, Bruce Smith, Leo Sullivan, Corey Turner, and Marlon West. The BHERC will introduce the 2010 S. E. Manly short film showcase filmmakers at the opening night ceremony. The program will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Tickets are $25.00 per person.

On December 11th and 12th, at Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, CA 90038, the BHERC will feature short films including comedy, drama, science fiction, and youth films from around the country. The BHERC is proud to present its Second Annual Diversity Youth Film Festival hosted by Producer/Teacher Darryl McCane. The Youth film festival showcases short films written, directed, produced and featuring youth from local area High Schools.

Founded in 1996 by Sandra Evers-Manly, the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center is a nonprofit, public benefit organization designed to advocate, educate, research, develop, and preserve the history and future of Blacks in film and television. Through film festivals, award ceremonies, book signings, script readings, contests, scholarships, other programs and special events, BHERC recognizes the contributions of Black men and women in front of and behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.

Tickets for the opening night on December 10, 2010 are $25.00. Tickets for the film screenings are $25.00 for an all day pass or only $10.00 for a group of films which are in blocks of approximately 2 hours. For a complete line-up visit www.BHERC.org, or call (310) 284-3170; email: john@firstweekendclub.com.
