The World Is My Country "CAUTION: Watching this film may cause you to think YOU can change the world"

The World Is My Country

83 min Documentary Filmed in USA, France, Germany & India
Martin Sheen Trailer

Quotes about the film

“Minutes after pressing play, THE WORLD IS MY COUNTRY was off to an unlikely start: a young granddaughter in a rainbow audience of kids watching as her 90-year old grandad hobbles onto a Charlie Chaplin stage, kicks away his cane and launches into his Danny-Kaye routine from the Golden Age Broadway. Then came the funky, low-budget animation... It all felt a bit schmaltzy.   However, as the film progressed, I was drawn in by Garry Davis's enthusiastic, extremely unique and influential story, with its infectious idea that somehow managed to spark Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Albert Camus and 20,000 Parisians into a mighty movement: 'World Citizenship!  This guy Garry Davis had the innocence of such endearing fictional characters as Forest Gump or Zelig. But here was a honest-to-goodness, unscripted, real-life person, who-- with such purpose, full-awareness, common sense and guts-- blew me away. How could this guy be real? And yet, there he was in black-and-white archival, a part of world history!  In the end, I was definitely taken with Garry Davis's amazing story, because in a 21st century world that's been torn apart by renewed walls of fear and divisions of hate, his message of 'World Unity' is something we all need to embrace. 71 years after he first proposed a positive movement, Garry might well be giving us a 'roadmap to a better future'.  Best of Best for the Future of Your Film,"

“Each year we cull through 1,500 films submitted to our festival and balance those against another 500 recommendations from our sources around the world.  As we debate the final selection of 150 features for our festival, each of our 10 programmers has at least one film that he or she will fight for.  This year, “The World is My Country” was mine.”

--Craig Rice, Lead Programmer, Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival

“An absolutely mesmerizing film, love it. ...  Between Martin Sheen and the amazing Garry Davis we are entering a world of true pioneers and leaders. A great treat.”

--Meira Blaustein, Executive Director  WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL

“I couldn't take my eyes off the screen … Wow! This film can inspire us all to join together to build a better world.”

--Elizabeth English, founder MOONDANCE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
