The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie at the Cannes Film Festival
The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie will be again present at the Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2023), as an active backer of filmmakers, producers & institutions from Francophone countries of the Global South. The Fonds Image de la Francophonie (known as “the OIF Film Fund”) supports the development, production and post-production of films & series (both fiction, animation, documentary) in those member-States of the Francophone Organization defined as “low and middle income countries”. Since 1990, the OIF Fund has supported more than 15,000 films and series.
The OIF is happy and proud of the strong presence of African film in Cannes 2023. Six grantees of its Fund – a record – made it to the Croisette and its red carpet(s) this year: BANEL & ADAMA by Ramata Toulaye-Sy (Senegal) in the Official selection (Competition), LES FILLES D’OLFA by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia) in the Official Selection (Competition), LES MEUTES by Kamel Lazraq (Morocco) in the Official Selection (Un Certain Regard), DÉSERTS by Faouzi Bensaïdi (Morocco) and MAMBAR PIERRETTE by Rosine Mbakam (Cameroon) at the Directors’ Fortnight, LA MER ET SES VAGUES by Liana Kassir & Renaud Pachot (Lebanon) at l’Acid.
The OIF supports the Institut français La Fabrique Cinéma de l’Institut français since it was created. This will be the 15th edition of this reputed coproduction workshop, and 6 out of the 10 selected feature-long projects come from Member-States (Egypt, Lebanon, Senegal, Tunisia) or Observer States (Argentina, Costa-Rica) of the OIF.
The Organisation will host or take part in several meetings and events centred on its priorities: funding films by French-speaking filmmakers of the Global South, coproduction & cooperation with African Film Funds.
