A documentary about England and Man United’s record goal-scorer, Wayne Rooney, has gone into production. Produced by Lorton Entertainment, the London based team behind smash hits such as Maradona, Make Us Dream and Supersonic, ROONEY will be a feature length documentary that lifts the lid on an extraordinary player known the world over for his performances on the pitch. With unprecedented access and directed by BAFTA award winning filmmaker Matt Smith (Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum and Dad), audiences will see and hear Wayne Rooney as never before in this story about a young boy with dreams and how he turned them into reality. The film will feature personal archive footage and interviews with talking heads from across the world of football and beyond.

For the first time we will witness first-hand the unique challenges Wayne has faced throughout his career and personal life. From the pressures of making his professional debut for Everton at 16, his intense relationship with the press and fans, to becoming Man United and England’s all-time top scorer. This film will walk us right into the present day as we see Wayne take on the next chapter of his life as a player-coach and captain for Derby County and ask what next for this fiercely competitive Liverpudlian. It will offer an intimate window into Wayne’s world at home, on and off the pitch and in quiet moments of reflection , allowing audiences to understand and witness the huge sacrifices and dedication it takes to be at the top of your profession for nearly two decades.
