Pakistan is appearing at Cannes 2019…

Durj (THE CASKET) A film by Shamoon Abbasi, an Italian-born Pakistani filmmaker is making its way to Cannes.
The film is wrapped in a mystery, and through this mystery it deals with a serious issue of cannibalism in Pakistan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The film is based on the true events of two brothers who were caught red-handed eating human flesh of dead people burried in the grave yard. They were arrested in 2011, only to be freed in 2013, due to the absence of any laws regarding the cannibalism – as this heinous crime was never heard in Pakistan. At Cannes Dodi Khan, the producer and actor will be present and exchange with other international filmmakers about the creative work of the new breed of Pakistani filmmakers of which they are an integral part. Shamoon is the son of a well-known TV writer, Zubair Abbasi, said Aslam Ansari, a paris-based documentary filmmaker who has known both Shamoon and Zubair Abbasi from the time when they lived in Rome. Udayyan Raathore from Rowdy Raathore Productions is also collaborating for promoting Durj. Udayyan is at Cannes with his debut feature, TWOSOME, an unusual story of two strangers who get suck with each other for an entire night – and share their tales as how one’s ambitions and the inherent uncertainty in movie business ruin the lives…

Durj has got a deal for global distribution with ABA Associates for the following territories : US, UK, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar. It’s going to appear in cinemas on 11th October 2019.

Exploring Cannes as the hub of launching new international film ventures, Shamoon's production house, Shaam Films is also working on a co-production with France and Italy. Udayyan Raathore is coordinating in this next venture with his innovative talent. Udayyan's film TWOSOME opened at Cannes and was appreciated a lot. The film got an standing ovation at the end. Udayyan has way to go at the Festival market. He has nailed it as a debutant director.
