Than you Cannes Classics, thank you Thierry Fremaux... I had had so much fun working on the french release for Sony Pictures. This, above, was our special poster designed for France. It was inspired the fantastic teaser trailer, I found the trailer so powerful that I asked Publicis, our ad agency, to work on a poster focused on the final scene where Jim is about to disolve in bright light: The ceremony is about to begin... My team remembers dearly how I took them for a ride to celebrate the fantastic opening...at Père Lachaise with a hidden bottle of Champagne we drunk on his grave and shared with Jim and some fans smoking pot to his memory!
I remember having a fight with Liberation, an influential french daily, who had trashed the film for no other reason than a personal vendetta against Oliver Stone after Platoon. " A colorful piece od shit" they wrote, and I therefore lost my bet with Oliver Stone that he would finally have a good review in Liberation...This is thebegining of a long story (ending on th efront cover of Variety opening issue in Cannes! I ll tell you some day...
