A WILL TO DREAM

A former ballet star in the Philippines, Luther Perez surrendered his US Green Card to teach dance to underprivileged children and youth in urban poor districts in Quezon City. He wanted to continue the heroic work started by his close friend, Eddie Elejar, and late domestic partner, Tony Fabella, of empowering the marginalized through ballet. Filmed over five years, A WILL TO DREAM touches on issues of teenage pregnancy, illegal drugs, precarity of labour, and inconsistent governmental support in poverty alleviation. It movingly illustrates how dance when partnered with altruistic teaching has the power to possibly overcome these socio-economic inequities and political challenges.

Director: Patrick Alcedo | Genre: Documentary | Running time: 95 minutes

LIGHTS OUT

Five friends (Akmal, Arif, Aryana, Azie, and Amir) go on holiday to Genting Highlands. On the way home, they are involved in an accident that kills Amir. The other four are called to the morgue to make an identification of Amir’s body. While waiting for the doctor to arrive, they discover they are locked in the morgue, which is frequently disturbed by mysterious sights and sounds. The four friends suspect that the entity that is bothering them is Amir’s restless spirit because they have wronged their friend. Amir was very kind to them and had always helped them in times of trouble. Confined to the morgue, the friends recall their memories of how they got to know each other. One by one each friend retells a moment in which they betrayed their friend. Did they all make it out of the morgue alive?

Director: Aliff Ihsan Rahman
Writer: Azhar Jalil
Cast: Azizul Ammar, Uyaina Arshad, Naim Daniel, Azhar Jalil, Ismi Melinda, Afieq Shazwan
Genre: Thriller | Country: Malaysia
Running time: 108 minutes
