American Documentary Film Festival

Named one of the world's Top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee by Movie Maker magazine in April 2013, and named one of the world's 5 coolest documen9tary film festivals by MovieMaker in November 2013, the American Documentary Film Festival's 11th annual event takes place  April 7-11, 2022.

The Festival is located in the beautiful resort community of Palm Springs, California. Ideally located 2 hours east of Hollywood, this film mecca boasts a favorable viewing audience and a proven track record of supporting independent films. Already the largest documentary festival on the West Coast of the United States, we feature documentary features, doc shorts, and animated shorts from filmmakers around the world. Our main objective is to promote a world vision of film as seen through the eyes of the filmmaker.

Interview with Tom White (IDA) one of Amdocs expert panelist and moderator

Tom White is the editor of Documentary magazine, the print and online publication of the IDA, and a contributor to several other publications.  The IDA offers a wide range of opportunities for documentarians of all experience levels to grow professionally by enhancing their knowledge of the craft and business of nonfiction filmmaking.

In this interview with filmfestivals.com Bruno Chatelin, shot in Palm Springs, between two panel sessions at AmDocs, Tom White accepted to share a few essential tips for filmmakers embarking with a new documentary on the festival circuit.

Know your film well, prepare your pitch, and get ready to connect, research for your festival strategy, which festivals, what they like...
