Irregular Seasoning

Director: Adrien Beau.
Irregular Seasoning is loosely inspired by the life of the French Marchioness de Brinvilliers (1630-1676). The Marchioness is a depressed woman of the French aristocracy who leads a dull life in her castle, dominated by her husband, an "important" man, her small daughter and the servants. Attempting to end her days with rat poison, she resolves to test it on one of her maids. Rather sucessfully. She discovers a passion for poisoning, and she considers it an art. One by one, she kills her husband, her daughter and the greater part of the well-bred people that come around for a visit. She finds her life’s purpose, yet her life ends with her being burned at the stake. In her finest garments, she happily meets her end having finally done something with her life. But even the Marquise knows, all good things must come to an end.

The alternative birth of the Music Video

By Robert Barry In April 2005, less than a year before shooting their own debut film Electroma, the French electronic group Daft Punk directed themselves in a video for the song 'Robot Rock', from their third album, Human After All. The video finds Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo in black leather and robot masks performing on a dark, neon-lit stage resembling somewhat the sets for the BBC's flagship pop music show Top of the Pops in the late eighties. Surrounding the stage, a p...

Car Lights Like Tears

Director: Peter Hastie.
A lone soul looks for pity in the night. Text from an anonymous blog.

Director: Peter Hastie.
A woman's descent into spirit. Experimental film derived from video footage of an art installation by Kate E Deeming. While most of the techniques in evidence - dissolves, fades, double exposures etc - were in use within a few years of the birth of cinema, they are presented here in a context which highlights their potential within the digital era, serving the needs of an ever-expanding visual language. Threads was edited within a single editing program. No additional plug-ins were used. Music: Scope J by Scott Walker (vocals by Ute Lemper). International festival screening rights secured.

Director: Sergio Visinoni.
“There are 130 music bands in the Bergamo area”. Gianluigi often talks about this, and he really looks amazed by a musical and social phenomenon that seems to defy passing time: how strange that, in an age when music is so easily accessible, someone should spend years learning how to play an instrument just for the pleasure of playing it with a bunch of fellow dilettanti – the latter word being used in its positive meaning, of course. This is the starting point of a journey into Gianluigi Trovesi’s music and personal memories along the many years of his activity both in the Nembro band and in the territory hosting it.

Topanga Film Festival - Neuroscience Converges with Independent Cinema

The 7th Annual Topanga Film Festival - Neuroscience Converges with Independent Cinema

We will have interesting salon discussions between filmmakers and neuroscientists to discover the science
behind the art. What is the biology of creativity? Does the Director really have control over the audience's response?
We are also premiering MYNDPLAY - a new technology that allows the user to use their brain waves to determine the outcome of the movie.

We have a couple of world premiere's at our festival, there will be music, a 3D day and of course parties to cap off the evening.

Topanga Film Festival

Scoring the film

As we head into the studio to score our film a few thoughts cross my mind.  Will I be able to deliver the proper music since I'm tied so closely to the project and what kind of music should I write?  To kind of get past that I enlisted the help of a good friend of mine who is an amazing drummer and producer.  We realized that film needed music to be subtle so that it would fit the pace of the film. We came up with a great idea of writing one long piece and breaking it up into parts so that th...
