Notes from Film Independent Forum

user
Some are here to learn, some are here to share. Everyone is here in the name of film. Each have different experiences, backgrounds, and levels of expertise. As I sat in one panel about film financing Saturday I looked back at the packed auditorium and thought to myself, "Damn. Each of these people are here just because they want to make movies." They don't have money to make it happen, but they are here because they believe in what they want to do enough that they believe they can make...

AFI Film Festival hits Los Angeles on Nov.3rd and eats its 25th edition cake too!

Time to spill the well-kept secrets: I'm a Frenchie in Hollywood! and you know you belong to the city, when you take your first shot of coffee in the morning with the "trades" - lingo for Hollywood Reporter, Variety, The Wrap and likes. Lately, that reading has been pretty gloomy. Cuts and drastic economic measures have prevailed, and muffled the jolly tunes of the industry. So much so that another industry is soaring as a side-effect of the "depression"...Therapists!...

Sunset Film Festival Los Angeles

MISSION:  The mission is simple: Promote filmmakers and screen writers.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:  Lots of films are rejected at film festivals. One of the reasons is that there are too many submissions. Producing a film is one thing.

The next step is submitting your film to film festivals. Then you realize that nothing is really happening. The Sunset Film Festival is different.

Giving filmmakers and screenwriters the opportunity to be noticed is our priority. Distributors love films screened at Festivals.

They love them even better when they are awarded.

FOUNDER:  The festival is brought to you by Mark Mos, Kodak Entertainment Imaging Awarded filmmaker and Film Premieres organizer.

Mark has organized pre-premiere film presentations such as: “Gladiator” (Russell Crowe), “Mission Impossible 2” (Tom Cruise),

“Gone in 60 seconds” (Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Jim Carrey), and much more.

He was in charge of the 5th Youth and Children Film Festival. Mark Mos is also a filmmaker; he has master’s degree in TV and Film Production.

His films were shown on film festivals in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago or Salt Lake City and also European countries: Hungary, Poland and Romania.

IMPORTANT:  100% of submission fees go directly to promote festival and rent auditorium for screenings. Submit your film with Sunset Film Festival.

This is the key to go further with your passion.

"Opus" Opens Shriekfest Los Angeles

user
I'm unfamiliar with the genre of "horror." I loved "Scream," and "I Know what you did Last Summer," in high-school when they came out, but somewhere along the way my interest piqued and hasn't come back again. I don't know, I like happy things. So last night I was excited to see inside an unfamiliar world at the Shriekfest opening night party. I talked to filmmakers about their work, horror as a genre, and the state of indie filmmaking. My wingman Cubby and I or...

Gothic thriller concludes Noir Festival in Hollywood

user
by Alex Deleon The 13th annual Film Noir festival concluded its edgy three week run at the hallowed Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on April 20, with the stomach churning identity theft thriller, "My Name is Julia Ross", (Columbia, 1945) starring Nina Foch in a memorable role as a kidnapped-for-murder blonde in an eerie Gothic mansion on the cliffs over the sea in Cornwall, U.K. While this is really more of a Gothic murder mystery than a pure noir, contract director Joseph...

Always a Bridesmaid? Hell NO! by Kimberly Deisler

If you’re a woman and you hear adjectives like short and funny, immediately you think two things, that Kimmie Dee is hilarious and so is a man with a sock in his pants. You’d be right to laugh at both.  A man show at a job site sans tool, almost nothing funnier or sadder.  But add to that hit list of short and funny, sexy and monetarily endowed and you’ve just described the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival’s closing night festivities.  Downtown LA’s Elevate Lounge hosted and LA...

Nothing But Bullshit by Kimberly Deisler

On the Actors Studio, James Lipton sits with a stack of 3,000 blue cardsand asks one guest, one question at a time.  The entire production is quite civilized save for theoccasional tap dance or ballet stance. At LA Comedy Shorts FilmFestival, the scene is anything but civilized.  First of all, the panelists are no-names and today’s groupwas no different.  For instance, some guy named Wayne Brady, was there. Now I ax ya, who da hell is dis guy?  They muttered something about him being ...
