The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival

From Boerum Hill to Bergen Beach. Fort Greene to Flatlands. Cobble Hill to Canarsie.
It's only Brooklyn when you count every neighborhood and every community.

We founded the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (AoBFF) in 2011 because Brooklyn needs a major independent film festival. While there are several niche festivals in our borough, they're based around individual neighborhoods and are limited in scope. Founded and run by Brooklyn-born and based working artists, the AoBFFcreates the first large-scale, borough-wide platform for independent film.

The AoBFF is the only independent, international film festival built entirely around Brooklyn, a local independent scene with global influence. We focus on Brooklyn‐born, Brooklyn-based and Brooklyn-centric films and filmmakers and we screen work from all over the world whose creators live, work in, or are inspired by Brooklyn's indie film scene.

We conceived the AoBFF as a festival that speaks to Brooklyn as a whole, where many demographics overlap. We bring the new, artist-centric Brooklyn community together with "Classic Brooklyn" – natives and immigrant communities at a single event. We are as diverse, vital and international as the borough itself. And everyone is invited to our party.

Films are screened at 300-seat Founders Hall Theater at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, 300-seat Kumble Theater at LIU Brooklyn and select locations around the borough.

The AoBFF is the only festival in Brooklyn to screen films as part of ExChange, a network of film festivals in the US and Europe. This exclusive partnership gives our filmmakers a chance to screen at RxSM Film Expo in Austin, TX.

The Art of Brooklyn is a not-for-profit organization that curates a conversation between the new, Brooklyn-based art community, immigrants, transplants and those born and raised in the borough.

1999 in Mexico City: „Fede”, his roommate Santos and Fede´s younger brother Tomás hanging out in a spartan housing block apartment somewhere in the big city. And Fede, also called „Sombra” (shade), is afraid of going to be crazy – because of the Tiger, who is haunting in his head. What fairly desolate starts, becomes in &bd...

Dances With Films Begins Today in LA! Interview with Cofounder Leslee Scallon

Sixteen years ago when Michael Trent and Leslee Scallon’s feature length crime drama thriller didn’t get into any of the industry festivals, feeling slighted by being passed up for not having any big names attached, they decided to found a film festival. Trent’s idea would bring together the forces of filmmakers who weren’t getting play on the festival circuit just because there were no big names attached. Nine months later they had 300 submissions, and had sere...
