My Impressions of Cannes by ECU Filmmaker Fabien Dubois

user
This year I was at the festival presenting my short film High/Low, which was entered in the Short Film Corner. This meeting place for short films is pretty interesting because it facilitates the exchange with other people from the industry (filmmakers, producers, screen writers, actors)Unfortunately,it is difficult to get around to everything because so many people are signedup, and I get the feeling that this year it wasn’t easy on the SFC side. The place is very friendly but there is a lac...

Scott's Cannes Update

user
Scott Hillier's Cannes Update Ahh.. Cannes.. The mammoth, the Big-Daddy, the Fois Gras of all film festivals. The must-be-there, must-drink-bucketloads of Rosé, must show my power and strength (and the new shoes - although the blistering will be painful!) event of the year for everyone involved in European cinema. OR IS IT? So Sundance made love with Raindance, deliciously long-legged beauties sauntered the Croisette in the oh-so- slinkiest of dental floss inspired micro skirts. ...

ContraVision International Film Festival

19 years of contravision film festival
1993 - 2011

contravision - a film festival for those who not only want to passively watch films but want to make films themselves. underground films, independent and inventive, versatile, insubordinate, funny or melancholy, low budget or no budget but with great ambition. contravision doesn't see itself solely as a competition but aims at increasing media awareness among both the filmmakers and the audience.

at contravision, the audience and not a jury of professionals is asked to chose the winners of the festival. we want to present the audience with highlights of creative film making by unknown directors and future stars with a focus on original ideas and imaginative realisation instead of technical sophistication.

the purpose is to refocus the publics attention on independent short films that are produced off the beaten track of mainstream cinema and therefore are often excluded from the commercial cinema circuits.

Features and Shorts
[And in case you're wondering, short films are 30 minutes or less. Features run at least 75 minutes. If you're in the middle...sorry. Maybe next year, we'll add a "long shorts" section to the festival!]

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of hardened horror freaks - we'll get back to you, by December 23, 2010 at the latest, and let you know whether you've been accepted. If you want, we can also review the film in detail on TrashCity.org; that is entirely optional, but if you're looking to get buzz started, that would be a good way, since the site gets 1,000+ visitors per day. Let us know with your entry if you'd rather we didn't do that though, and we'll happily keep quiet.

What's in it for me, you say? Well, the winner of both the Best Short and Best Feature will receive a domestic and International distribution deal from Brain Damage Films and Maxim Media International. Other film distribution companies and studios are invited to attend and may be interested in your film. We are working with sponsors to offer a cash prize and we will post prizes when they are available.
There is no better way to get your film seen by horror fans. Other entries may also be offered contracts, if they're deemed worthy, but the winners get that as a guarantee. There'll also be an 'Audience Choice' award for the best single film, be it short or feature. We haven't quite worked out what the prize is for that yet though!

Any questions, please feel free to email us, at director@phxfearfilmfestival.com or you can call 602-399-9500, and we'll happily answer your queries.

La Jolla Fashion Film Festival

End of Festival Directors on Stage WEB

La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival is the First International Fashion Film Festival Founded in North America.

World’s largest gathering of fashion filmmakers

An industry event

Mission: Empower, Support, & Recognize The Individual Creative Professionals Who Make Up The Fashion Film Community Worldwide

We combine creativity, beauty, and fashion with the ability to make money – join us.

Known as the Cannes of fashion film, La Jolla will once again will be the market maker for distribution deals, director representation, and fashion film production houses.

La Jolla = Business. Deals are made in La Jolla.

LJIFFF 2013 was by all accounts a spectacular success. With over hundreds of fashion filmmakers from around the world in attendance, the packed theater of 500 attendees was enthralled by the top 1% of fashion films produced worldwide.

From our neighbors in Hollywood to the fashion capitals of the world, we came together once again to network, attend seminars & panels, screen films, go to press receptions, participate in After Parties, and win awards. The films that made it into the final program represented some of the most brilliant and  creative directors in filmmaking today. Curated from the dynamic and the exploding world of fashion film, are a glimpse of what’s trending in the minds of the world’s top fashion houses, designers, and stylists interpreted through the lens of their filmmaking counterparts.

In 2013, in support of our mission to empower creative professionals worldwide, we introduced the International Fashion Film Awards (IFFAS) at La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival. The next IFFAS will be a star-studded event held July 27, 2014 at one of Hollywood’s most famous venues – the Fox-Wilshire-Saban Theater. More details and tickets will be available in January 2014.

Both the LJIFFF and IFFAS will be having separate juries and awards enabling filmmakers and creative professionals worldwide twice the opportunity for recognition and award winning.

The La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival through it’s Official Selection, Nomination, and Awards will be exposing creative professionals worldwide to an all-star International Jury of experts, and global audience. A time tested way to ignite careers and expand opportunities.

“From now on the brilliant work done by makeup artists, hairstylists, art directors, editors, musicians, wardrobe stylists, writers, and others will have the opportunity to win awards. These awards are for the best in the world and cut across national boundaries and cultures. Thanks to the global reach of LJIFFF everyone is included no matter where on earth they live or work stated Festival Producer Fred Sweet”

All creators in the fashion film industry are welcome to submit.

In today’s economic environment highly skilled and creative individuals need to distinguish themselves in the marketplace. Creative professionals whose films are accepted for nomination can look forward to having their name, work, and film put into the Festival’s worldwide media coverage including press releases, websites, event activities, and many of our fashion media sponsors including magazines, blogs, and more.

The LJIFFF winners will be announced Academy Awards style on Saturday night July 26, 2014.

Havana Film Festival New York Ready to Rumble

user
Jointly presented with Havana, Cuba's International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the Havana Film Festival New York is close, but no cigar. Subways and skyscrapers just can't match that fallen Habanero elegance as a habitat for Latino cinema. But if Cuba isn't on your itinerary and Manhattan is, you could do worse than to savor a week of Big Apple screenings from and about Latin America and the Caribbean, and about Latinos in the U.S. Opening Night w...

If You're Going to San Francisco ... International Film Festival

user
Four thousand film festivals populate the globe. But more than many, the San Francisco International Film Festival may satisfy a collective hunch of what such a gathering should be. Perhaps age has something to do with it; at 53 years old, SFIFF, held this year from April 22 to May 6, 2010, is the oldest film festival in the Americas. Then there's the topography of San Francisco, which rises, falls and yields vistas that themselves cop filmic metaphors. Or maybe it's because San Francisc...

Titles in the popular "Music Films/Music City" competition include several non-fiction films. There's The Bass Player, N...

Six Weeks: A Short Film by Marcin Janos Krawczyk, Poland 2009

user
Six weeks is the period in which mothers in Poland must decide whether or not they want to give up their parental rights.  Six weeks from when the baby is born up until the final decision.  The doubts, the moments of grief, the ‘I have no other choice', hesitancies, the rules that only allow the biological mother to contact the child after 10 years, the discussions with the psychologist, and lastly the child's point of view. This very short documentary, only 18 minutes, follows a story...
