It was an avant-garde female film programme, specially composed for a festival, a particular program – “Tribute to Adolfas Mekas” and the latest films of Jonas Mekas were demonstrated in special screenings.

Director: Lluis Escartín.
A man walks into the desert. A man lives with the Tuareg. A man listens to another man, and this one asks the other to film everything he finds. To film it and spread the word beyond the dunes. Film everything, even if he does not understand. Film it, even if what’s most important remains invisible.
Vilnius International film festival pays tribute to great Lithuanian film makers, which are better recognized internationally than locally.
Jonas Mekas was born in Lithuania, but immigrated to New York in 1949. That same year, he made his first films, using a 16mm Bolex camera. Jonas Mekas is a filmmaker, journalist, teacher, curator and author, and is considered one of the most important representatives of US avant-garde cinema.

The Literati Film Festival is a collection of thought provoking works from around the world. It is an international showcase of film to evoke an emotional response and a perceptual alteration in the viewer. Accepting narrative, experimental, documentary and animation it is our hope they be shown together under the broad hood of cinema.
It is our hope that you will behold something unfamiliar and strange, yet at the same time revel in its familiarity. We want to bring the viewer to a place outside their comfort zone, to a place where they normally are not allowed just as film does. It is a transitory experience. Voyeuristic, it is a window into the lives and minds of others. We want to show things that quicken the heart and mystify the senses.
As Opera encompassed artistic union between different mediums, so to has film. It is the objective of the festival to celebrate the film in its totality. To also dissect it into its components and explore their beauty such as film score and concept art. Applicants are encouraged to submit any and all process materials and film scores to be reviewed as well. Art including but not limited to process, concept, props, installations, and costumes will be showcased in our grand opening and closing ceremonies.
The first annual film festival will be held at the Anthology Film Archives. It is their mission of preservation and promotion of film as an art medium that we hope to ally ourselves with. Founded by Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, Jerome Hill, P. Adams Sitney and Peter Kubelka in 1969, it was created as a place where film as an art could be showcased.

Director: Iris Ponkina.
"HOW LONG WINTER LASTS IN ROMANIA" is an observational travelogue through contemporary romanian cities and countryside in the wintertime.
Fragments of "Mioritza", the romanian national ballade intermingles with Jonas Mekas poetic visions.
Romania, a land of contrasts, on the promising doorstep of European Union still seems to be in a state of post-communist syndrome.
Romania's resemblance to Lithuania intrigues questions and skepticism. Winter as a metaphor is I.Ponkina's debut short film.
This year, Ecofilms, paid tribute to filmmaker Jonas Mekas, as the International Films & Visual Arts Festival in Rhodes presented two of his major diary films: Diary, Notes and Sketches or Walden (1969, 180’) and Reminiscences of a journey to Lithuania (1972, 82’).The Lithuanian-born poet, film critic and director became the cornerstone of the American avant-garde after he left the German and Soviet occupation to settle for New York City in the 1950s. In 1958, he began there the influential...
