Commentary - The People Speak

I have to confess, I watched "The People Speak" last night, from 8-9, but then I turned to A&E's "The Jackson's: A Family Dynasty" Reality Show premiere ;) What I did see of "The People Speak" makes me want to see it in its entirety, yet still I went to bed without checking to see if they were going to do an encore performance last night on The History Channel, which they did at midnight, so I missed rec...

Saturday was my first day of film viewing at AFI

Known for its assorted cartoon characters, acting wannabes and celebrity look a-likes, Hollywood Boulevard at Halloween seems like any other day only more so. The bustling street felt like a traffic accident where the action is fast but seems like slow motion as ghouls, goblins and the scantily clad, wandered the streets like Cinderella at crunch time. In the midst of all this activity, as if quietly perched in the eye of the storm, lies a sophisticated collection of ...

Dust & Dreams

Before the advent of digital cameras, film had to be developed and printed commercially. Concerns about privacy kept most camera users, including young people, from taking or posing for revealing photos. Digital cameras, especially easy-to-use versions marketed to children, have made it simple to take pictures that no one else sees. Computers have made it easy to transmit them. Photographs can be posted online or sent via email. Some young people are experimenting with th...

New Festival Date's and Location

The11th Encounters South African International Documentary Festival will be held in Cape Town ONLY from the 2nd – 19th July 2009. The reason for not hosting the Festival in Gauteng this year is that we have received limited funding this year. This is as a result of the current global financial crisis and the crisis in the local film industry. The brand of the Festival will remain the same, with an exciting line-up of local and international films already programm...
