Natural selection: Texas Film Wins Top Awards At SXSW

user
Austin, Texas, the state capitol and the venue for the South By Southwest Film, Music and Interactive Festival (SXSW), is an island of liberalism in a sea of conservative attitudes. While Texas is the definite "red" state, characterized by its conservative politics and rigid social attitudes, SXSW is by design and nature a progressive affair. This slightly schizophrenic relationship has created some interesting moments at SXSW in the past week, with a film that uncovers the hidden secrets behind...

All that you wanted to know about women and more – i.e. the new section at OFF PLUS CAMERA 2011

user
In the “Filming Women” section we will present the most interesting films made in the last few years. As the name of the section might suggest, these will be films touching upon the women's issues, not necessarily made by women though. The selected titles may serve as proof that contemporary cinema is full of genuine portraits of women far from the stereotypical perception of the representatives of the fair sex. The section “Filming Women” and its contents set questions about criteria o...

REHENES / HOSTAGES

Director: BRUNO ORTIZ LEON.
"HOSTAGES" IS THE HISTORY OF THE DIRECTOR OF THEATRE WHO MEETS INVOLVED IN THE EVENTS OF THE CAPTURE AND RESCUE OF THE RESIDENCE OF THE AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN IN PERU, A POLITICAL LOBBIE DURING THE GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTO FUJIMORI (1996 - ' 97). At the cost of THE LIFE GIVE 72 HOSTAGES IN A COMPASS OF WAIT GIVE 122 DAYS. Going For The Brass Ring At Sundance

user
For American Independent filmmakers (and increasingly, international ones too), the Sundance Film Festival is an opportunity to put one's project on the world stage and, hopefully, end up with a delicious distribution deal. Of course, truth be told, less than 5% of the 250 films on offer here will create any sort of noise after the Festival concludes (well, push that up to 10% if you include the films that will eventually be asked to participate on the international film festival circ...

SXSW To Premiere Mel Gibson Film

user
Mel Gibson may be slightly persona non grata in Hollywood, but Austin, Texas is rolling out the red carpet for him come March. Gibson's newest film, THE BEAVER, in which he co-stars with the film's director Jodie Foster, will receive its World Premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) in mid March prior to its theatrical release later that month by producer/distributor Summit Entertainment. In the drama, Ms. Foster's third film as a director, Gibson stars as a depres...
