Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is proud to present the US Premiere of long-time environmental activist, photographer, and filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand, and his newest film LEGACY on the occasion of Earth Day on April 22, 2021 at 8:00pm.
LEGACY vividly portrays the urgency of the climate situation, the pressing need to act in support of sustainable development and the preservation of biodiversity. "I made a very personal film which was probably one of the most difficult I had to make," said Bertrand. "It is also a call for collective responsibility, and I hope it will be heard by everyone.”
With the style and talent that have become Bertrand’s trademark since the movie Earth from above, LEGACY heightens the stakes on well-known environmental problems that have not improved during his lifetime; "… I’m 74 years old. I was green [an environmentalist] when I was 20. Have you seen what has been going on for fifty years or so? That’s crazy. I never thought 50 years ago to talk about the end of humanity."
This is why, through LEGACY, the director also evokes solutions to act in the face of environmental catastrophe. "There is so much blah blah around climate change and ecology when, in the end, the solutions are simple”, he asserts. Simple on paper yes, but extremely complicated in practice, he admits, referring to a "change of civilization" and of "our relationship to the wild world". He does not hesitate, however, to draw a parallel with the current pandemic which has forced the world to comply with unprecedented constraints to save lives.
"Of course we won’t change the world with a film but our duty is to try", he adds.
The event begins at 8:00pm on Thursday, April 22 online from anywhere in California. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here: https://theatreraymondkabbaz_yannarthusbertrand.eventive.org/welcome
